Get your hike on! It's well worth it. Wear shoes that you don't mind getting a bit mucky. Otherwise, mud dried and comes off easily- just do the hike !
Read the signs near the restrooms for the map, read the signs at the top for phallic history, show a Hawai‘i ID for free parking , and read the Foursquare tips for the secret path.
Walk across bridge and past steps down to the left. Bear right and go down the back steps. After all the steps, the sidewalk flattens out. An “Area Closed” sign marks the trail Stay right at all forks
This amazing valley could be a movie scene from King Kong or Jurassic Park . Nice river where you can take a swim .
Take a walk through the garden , up to view the "Needle". Deep your toes in Iao stream on hot days, just be sure to heed all park safety signs.
Beyond the "remain on designated walkway sign" lies a Narnian nature experience. About 1 hour trek in the mud for me through banana trees to a summit. Wear flip flops or shoes that you can get muddy.

The warning signs are basically a wink to venture further. There's so much more to explore, especially after going so far out of the way. Ignore the railings and signs. So worth it
