An old school diner open 24/7. Good food, especially for breakfast . The Loco Moco (my favorite) & omelettes are really tasty. GREAT pancakes , quite a variety. Good coffee . LARGE portions.
The oxtail stew was great. Caters to tourist . If you are looking for local and fresh wrong place. However, food good and service good. Feels and looks like small town Texas diner . Good value good food
Open 24 hours a day, it's a great stop if you're hungry late in Hilo. A diner-style menu with local favorites, order the largest ramen to hear them ring the bell and everyone yell "Sumo!"
Still craving the pancakes with lillikoi, guava , and coconut syrups . Delicious eggs Benedict ! We came here a few times on our trip!
The best pancakes I have ever had! The inside interior is super cute . This place is a must-visit if you go to Hilo.
Everyone comes for the pancakes , but their menu is extensive. HUGE portions so come hungry.
Sumo is exactly what it sounds like! Big enough for a hungry teen or two normal people (at least). Awesome Saimin and great chili too.
The menu was one of the largest I've ever seen! A bit pricey but we thoroughly enjoyed our late night breakfast here.
The Macadamia encrusted Mahi Mahi with Lilikoi Hollandaise sauce was UN-BE-LIEVABLE!!
Huge portions , good quality, decent prices. Come in hungry, leave with a smile (and a swollen belly!)
Stopped here after a trip to Volcanos National Park ... Worth the stop - one of the best meals we've had on the island and well priced!
Extremely good food with very big portions . We didnt need lunch or dinner after having a breakfast here :)
The family bathroom is the one you want to use if you need to. It's so much cleaner and nicer than the men's and my friend tells me the woman's too.
Vegetarian Sausage and Veggie Bacon ... The Mauna Loa omelette was great, as is the Veggie BLT. Definitely get pancakes too.
They have some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Try the special syrups . They're all really good.
The teriyaki beef hoagie is soooo good!! The meat is tender and the sauce is just delicious. The Vietnamese iced coffee is really good too (iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk ). Love this place!
Pancakes are great. The staff are very friendly .
Awesome French Toast - not too sweet, but super filling. The Keiki menu has some nice options for those looking for smaller portions.
There are 4 choices of syrup : maple , guava , lilikoi , and coconut . Lilikoi is the best!!
Look out for a celebrity sighting of The Rock, he visits Ken's every time he's in Hilo (his cousin owns the place!). BJ Penn is also seen eating here before and after training .
Excellent. A must. Pancakes are huge and great. French toast on Hawaiian bread is excellent too.
This was the medium pancake plate. Be prepared to leave very full! Everything seems to come with a side of pancakes !
Great breakfast food selection. Had a Loco Moco , also great pancakes with boysenberry syrup .
Sweet diner with a huge menu. Try the pies !
The saimin here is the perfect meal at anytime of the day...especially if it's rainy and cold outside. Warms the spirit.
The banana mac nut Belgian waffles were great. Crispy outside, light inside. Try them with coconut syrup .
Old-school diner with good, big portions . Service was great.
Diverse menu with many favorites...including the pancakes .
Hamburgers:-) onion rings:-) eggs Benedict :-):-):-) all hawaiian grindz
Food was just okay and was really taken back that they wanted to charge me again for a 2nd tea bag. You can drink all the coffee you want but only give 1 bag for the giant carafe of water they give u.
Huge portions ! The Chef 's Choice Omelette and Chef Salad were terrific!
A local institution on Hilo. It's best to come here during off peak hours if you don't want to wait for a table.

One of the best places to eat in Hilo everything I tried is great
Ask for Laura (she’s the best) … and be sure to yell, “SUMO!” real loud when they ring the ship‘s bell.
