Easy access waterfall ! Very pretty and worth a visit. Go in the morning when the skies are clear to try and see the rainbow it’s named after.
Head up the staircase on the left and go straight through the tree canopy. At the end you will see quite possibly most massive tree in Hawaii. Definitely the most interesting thing at this stop.
Climb the stairs, drop down to the top of the big fall and scramble across the lava flows to the small falls at the back. You'll find 10-25ft cliffs to jump with easy access in and out of the water.
A famous scene in Hawaii, Rainbow Falls earns its name on sunny mornings when the light creates a rainbow off the mist. Right off the road with a short walk in and ADA ramp makes this easy to access.
Beautiful and very accessible view ! Great for anyone with small kids or maybe those unable to make a long trek. It’s literally a minute from the parking lot .
Go after a really good rainstorm. You’ll see an entirely different falls then what you’re expecting!
I got 11 mosquito bites here. If you're like me, and have sweet blood, I recommend you bring some bug spray. :(
Maybe a five-minute walk from the parking lot to the viewing area; great place to quickly see a waterfall if you don't have much time.
Don't miss the banyan trees at the top. They are great to climb.
Neat little waterfall . The guide books make it sound like your car will be toast but we had no trouble with thieves.
Don't miss the awesome-looking banyan tree that you'll see if you walk a bit past the viewing platform .
Hike up to the back of the falls, and you'll enter a fantastic jungle of giant banyan trees -- don't you feel you're in the Wonderland that Alice was in?
You can see the falls from the parking lot , and it's an easy and short hike to the top of the falls.
The river 's named Wailuku which means "water of destruction" - people who wade in its shallows get swept away to drown in furious currents. And there's a monster in the cave behind the falls.
Doesn't need a rainbow . Climb the banyan tree up top. Well worth the effort.
Great place for pictures. Come on a clear morning to see the rainbow
So beautiful and it's right in Hilo's backyard !
Easy to get to, worth it
BEST WATERFALL AND GREAT ADVENTURE SPOT ABOVE THE FALLS
the massive Banyan tree just below the trees is as stunning if not more than the falls.
Nice view of the water fall.
Walk past and up the trail . The real treasure is the huge banyan tree !
Car break-ins do happen. Leave windows down and nothing inside. Otherwise, the falls are lovely.
On a sunny clear day, you can see rainbows in front of the falls, hence the name "Rainbow Falls."
Not the best waterfall on the island but it's easy access
Beautiful, even when there isn't much water coming down.
Everything
Must see! Just a few miles from Hilo airport . Easy access . Beautiful falls! Read more
Amazingly beautiful.
Lovely waterfalls ,and maybe even a kitten now and then.
You'll only see the rainbow in the morning when the sun is behind you.
Nicest after heavy rain
The waterfall is pretty but nothing really more to it. Snap a few pictures from the various vantage points and be on your way.
Ironically enough at this precise moment in time there is no water (the merest of trickles).
Get out of the car for 5 minutes and you've seen it. A good falls, but not much else to it.
Coming from Hilo town the falls are just past the old hospital on Rainbow Dr.
Some nice bouldering at the top....
Pretty but not too impressive. 30 yard walk from the parking lot . 10 minutes. Free.
No sign for it, just turn right into Rainbow Road . If you pass the hospital you've passed it.
Fave spot in Hilo (so far).
go to rainbow falls
Beautiful picnic area. Nice walking path, if it isn't flooded. Home to beautiful monkeypods and japanese style touches. - Richard Bowers
You can hike to the falls by taking a trail to the right of the Boiling Pots viewing point. Though you will have to do some swimming/bushwhacking to get to the actual falls! Proceed at your own risk. - Sabrina Michele Tilley
Definitely worth the really short hike down to see. You also see nice plant life as well! - Al B.
Amazing views. Quite big for a day visit. A car is a nessesity. Nice postcards in the visitor center. Some of the trails are closed because of vulcanic activity. - Martin Kunz
Every flavor you can imagine. Personal favorites were toffee and honey roasted - Donna Stetson Testa
