One of the tallest waterfalls in Hawaii, Akaka Falls has an impressive 400 foot drop. A concrete stairway, path and railings make this fairly accessible and great for families. There's an entry fee.
Take a poncho! Or an umbrella... At least if you visit in fall/winter, you WILL get rained on. There is a hit near the upper falls to hide from the rain too.
Very nice and easy trails to see two waterfalls . Nature along the way is lovely with flower and interesting tropical plants.
Wow! Akaka falls is stunning especially after a good rain storm. Very easy hike to lookout. Don’t bother with Kahana falls . Not much to see.
Do the route in reverse if you just want to see Akaka, then change your mind. It is relatively easy if you can handle steps. Cruise line filled with 55+ year-olds managed it today while I was there.
Definitely worth the really short hike down to see. You also see nice plant life as well !
Yes there is a $6 per person entrance fee. Make sure you pay it so that Hawaii’s beautiful parks can stay open!
Wonderful pit stop. Walking the whole route was short and enjoyable. The waterfall is super long and beautiful.
Absolutely worth the drive. Take the four mile "scenic route" on the way. Stop at the botanical gardens . All worth it.
Do the whole circle if you are in shape, amazing trees , but if you are in a hurry go straight to Akaka falls and skip the lower falls
Cool waterfall and nice trail but super crowded , and the parking fee is ridiculous, plus the parking attendants are kind of assholes.
It's $5.00 per vehicle and $1.00 per person. If you park outside the gate you save $5.00. The view is amazing and the foliage as well
If hiking uphill is a challenge, take the advice on the sign and hike in a counter-clockwise direction. It will be a little easier at the end, though the trail isn't that tough.
Amazing hike , some of the most beautiful waterfalls in this island
Beautiful falls with so many smaller falls along the way. Lots and stairs and walking but worth it
A quick stop! Don't have to hike very far to reach. And the entire way is paved.
The view off the falls is amazing.
Nice mild hike for you and the kids. Great views !
TIL that shrimp can go up waterfalls . ????
Opens at 0830. $5 to park or $1 a person. Credit card. license plate number needed.
Parking is $5 if you choose the parking lot ...payable by credit card. Or if you want to save a few bucks, park along the roadside.
Beautiful Akaka Falls is just four miles from Hakalau Vacation Rental .
Short walk. Nice. Go ahead and pay to park .
Took us about 20-25 minutes to walk the loop in flip flops. Beautiful falls , especially Akaka Falls .
If you you have 5 or more people in car, you're better off parking inside, otherwise you save by parking outside the get and walking in. Cost is then $1 per person.
Magical!!! Like a fairytale! Very cheap !
Check out the cats around the parking lot ????
Trails to two falls . Worth the walk.
A huge waterfall ... one of the biggest. Great views .
Walkway around the falls . Be careful of the mosquitos
If you park outside the gate and walk in, it's $1 a person. It's free if you have an Hawaiian ID.
Worth the 15 minute walk each way. Two falls to see.
The suggested route is a bit longer but with more to see. You can take the shorter route back.
Long drive from Kona for about 20 minute walk to view falls . Can not access water at all
???????????? incredible!
I wasn't a fan of Akaka, my girlfriend on the other hand, loves it.
This place comes from a higher power. Magnificent and out of prehistoric times.
Good scenic view
Nice easy hike , don't sweat it
Great short hike !
Scenic point!
Park just outside of the park to avoid paying $5 to park your car.
Water shoes are good but not necessary. Some ppl wore sandals. It takes about 20 minutes to walk the paved sidewalks.
It's $1 per person outside the lot parking , but they don't really check.
Walk the whole trail it's magical.
You now have to pay $5 parking - cash only & no change given.
Worth the trip!
$1 entry fee now.
So beautiful and huge... ^^
