Tip? Be that guy that also buys your bartender a drink. They're unpretentious, fun, & serving cheap drinks to the tired & thirsty huddled masses, which we can all agree, is God's work. Pay it forward.
Stephen Crawford turns out high-quality pub grub , including a burger with bacon shallot gastrique ($10) and potato skins topped with crisp pork belly and fried quail eggs ($9) Read more
Great dive for lunch , get the box burger , also has cheap drinks , 5$ special - a shot of whiskey and a pbr . Food also available at night next door at a window called box burger , great food
One of {so far} 3 Pour Guys Inc... EAT BOX... whose sticker game is on point. Great spot to grab a bite and enjoy a drink. Wonderful environment.
Tony and Joey's team at Tempest is great. Food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is so much better than a sterile chain. I recommend it for groups events if you aren't uptight! We will be back!
$3 PBR , $2 Hamm's, what else do you need?
Unassuming from the outside yet upon entry you'll notice shit hanging from the roof, mismatched signage, weird artwork and decent music . Sign me up.
Hard to have a bad time here. Solid dive bar with cheap drinks and great staff . Delicious bar food from the window next door that you can bring in.
They call this The Donkey Show and it's exactly as glamorous as it seems - a pint of Pacifico and a (healthy) shot of tequila . I call it a foolproof way to kick off a Happy Hour .
One read of the beers on draft , you realize, you’re not in a bar . You’re in something two steps up from a bar . Amazing.
Decent dive with cheap ass drinks. Don’t try the roofie colada . Almost didn’t make it home one night.
If you are planing to come here later in the evening come through the 5th street, not the 6th. The bar is great, lots of beer on tap , and nice interior. Bring ID and no smoking, even electric ones
That weird combination between divey and awesome. Saw a funny number of people working while having a drink. Crowd ranged from SoMa workers to PBR hipsters to a group of girls for a birthday party.
This is by far the best bar to go to, pre-club. 1 block away from 2 of the best clubs in the city and cheap as balls drinks... You can't go wrong
The Bolito Misto here is seriously one of the best sandwiches in the city ...if you doubt it, order one but don't be mad when u have a foodgasm #chefsteverocks #chefstevecrawford #eatbox #thetempest
For lunch , burger . For dinner , burger . For drinks, get a beer . Open late so a great place to stop the next time you're leaving a concert at Mezzanine.
One of the diviest of the dive bars in soma . Used to be a biker/punk bar , but now overrun by tech yuppies. They have tvs .
Best dive bar I've been to in awhile - great food, too! They do give small portions with the Mac n cheese balls though... Beware.
order food at the box next door, then buy a $5 pbr and jim beam. By the time you finish your drinks the food'll be ready and it's on to the next shot!
A classic dive bar , Tempest is one of the best. It has great beers and an even better atmosphere
Order The Donkey Show. Pint of Modelo and a shot of tequila for $7. It's a good decision.
One of my fave divebars. /$6 Rodenbach sour if you're fancy , $2 pbr draft if you're not. And the food is worth it anyway.
Besides being a nice divey bar in the evening, they have an excellent lunch menu .
Solid beer selection , changes often. Great food next door at Box Kitchen
Don't forget to take one of the complimentary ceiling bikes for a spin around the bar ! Also super chill , good vibes, good music .
The tomato bisque and grill cheese sando (for extra 3 bucks) hits the spot. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu though.
Fried mac and cheese balls, great burger and garlic fries and good beer selection .
Best dive bar in the city . Cheap , tasty, strong margaritas . Try the quail egg dish!
Open space with zero expectations which makes it the perfect place to stumble into late night .
One of the best burgers I've ever had!
A somewhat noisy dive bar , fun atmosphere , cheap beers + a few extra taps for the more picky.
You didn't ask for bars , but this place has food too. It's around a corner and looks like murder, but is really quite fun, plus the food is good.
If you're looking for a place to get your happy hour on and not break the bank , Tempest is a win! The all day, erry day special for $5 will knock you on your ass for $20 bar tab too!
Chicken and biscuit FTW!!! Also smoking hot staff !
Cheap beer . Great draft selection . Pool. Big space . Dive. Bartenders rule.
Food next door, pbr and whiskey . This is the best dive in sf.
Don't miss the Anchor Steam on tap . Great pour.
I work across the alley from here a couple of days a week. $2.00 pints of Pabst and decent food. Can't beat it.
Get the industry special if you like frenet
Cool bar with a pool table . Neighborhood is pretty rough and have seen fights break out.
Love the atmosphere and nice waiters !
Sang along to EVERY song! Great selection of beer ! Pretty cut throat games of pool! ❤️
Get the chicken and waffles and maybe a side of mac and cheese balls.
Used to be rad. Now you trip over and bump into what I can only assume are back-mounted battery packs powering the robotic tech dorks recently installed here.
Original Street Fighter II Hyper / Turbo Ed, pool, good cheep food, cheep drinks, and cool tenders.
This place is a staple - the perfect place for after work beers
This place can be super crowded during weekday happy hour time. Show up early or late
When it's busy there isn't really anywhere easy or convenient to sit or stand
For out-of-towners: If you are walking out of here at night turn right and go towards fifth (sixth is a bit sketchy )
That's not a jukebox , it's a video game and an ATM . You're CRUNKED!!!
One of the best dive bars in the Mission. Dog friendly, great greasy food, good drink prices, a nice small patio out back, and pool table. - Ali Uro-May
Very cool place. Get yourself a Lucky Buddha (bottle is amazing) and some of that Chinese elixir; just ask for in-gah-pa. - Josh Rangel
Best turkey burger I have had, hands down and really super friendly service! David at the bar was awesome. - Rachael Fouchier
Upper floor is beautifully decorated and ideal for chilled drinks, chatting and shaking to the music. Lower floor is more club atmosphere with payed entry and its great for dancing. - Maja Petkovic
You must try the Dolby theater if audio quality is important to you. It’s the best in the city. - Tantek Çelik
