The second best roaster in Chicago, Metropolis Coffee Company has quite a nice and relaxing cafe here if you want to make the trip up north. You can buy beans here too.
Outstanding sums up this delicious coffee roastery and hangout for Edgewater residents. In addition to serving up a mean cup of java, MCC also offers premium-grade teas and a small menu.
Cappuccinos are delicious! Whole beans are fresh and they will grind them to your specific machine if you don't have a grinder . My favorite beans are Spice Island , La Cordillera and Red Line .
Our coffee aesthetic is rooted in the belief that great coffee comes from a line of respect beginning with the farmers and their respect for their land.
There are three ways to enjoy Metropolis coffee : 1) buy a bag of beans, 2) buy a cuppa from a cafe that uses Metropolis coffee , 3) go to the source. All are good. This is great.
Their RedLine espresso is the best espresso I've ever had. Anywhere in the world. Do yourself a favour and get an espresso or americano - don't bother with the milk or sugar. It's that good.

for Metropolis, offer mugs with slimmer diameters. wider = coffee gets colder quicker (ah.....drink faster, drink more coffee ;) This is one of the best cafes in the city - best pastries by far.
Ask for The Justin (off menu , something you have to charm Justin for, this is a "shoulder-to-cry-on" coffee , the "come home to grandma" coffee , or "love on a rainy Sunday" coffee it feels that good!)
Great place to get work done. Lots of seating, strong wifi .
Metropolis has some of the nicest coffee on the north side. I love their Mochas , and for such a great place they are very affordable . Great atmosphere too.
Great coffee and the iced lattes are a standout here. They are one of the few coffeehouses that actually froth the milk in their iced espresso drinks , giving it a nice texture.
Depending on when you go it might be tricky to find a seat but you can always count on good service and good drinks, especially the ginger coffee !
$2 off on a lb of beans on Thursdays + punch card for buy 9, get 10th free = a pretty solid deal on excellent coffee . Oh, and a free small coffee with bean purchase.
Though flavor profiles and preparations still tend towards the old(er) school, sweet staff push this cafe experience from good to great.
Love love love it here! Wonderful coffee assortments and teas , plus a killer cold brew station. Also, love the fine folks of this joint.
"This humble spot is the gateway to one of the city ’s biggest coffee-roasting operations. The café serves a mean cup of java, as well as premium-grade teas and a small, but tasty, café menu." Read more
By far, the #1 coffee shop in Chicago and perhaps even the US. They purchase fair trade beans, roast locally and sell from this store and at many retail locations. Owners and staff R the best ever.
Try a shot of their new single origin espresso ! Redline espresso is also great. Very skilled baristas and great vibe, great coffee .
Absolutely delightful staff ! Best seat in the house: all the way in the back window corner on the big comfy sofas ;) can spend hours there with coffee and a book
Hands down the best beans in Chicagoland. Big ups to La Cordelliera blend. Buy them whole and grind at home.
Cool laid-back space. Good brew and friendly service .
The Chai is very good. I was a little disappointed that they don't brew it themselves, though... Lots of good table space for studying. Props for having tons of outlets.
Coffee , tea . Excellent atmosphere with lots of LUC students and local community members
It's cheaper than comparable roaster-owned coffeehouses , and is, in my opinion, the best. However, it is always at capacity and has embarrassingly slow wifi with a perpetually changing password.
The coffee is amazing! Don't forget to take home a bag of fresh ground coffee for home brewing .
You might find this strange but as a non-coffeee drinker I still enjoy the atmosphere and those Fantastic breakfast sandwiches .
If you have the time, try the pour over service. The barista's here are extremely friendly and love what they do.
A rather so-so cappuccino , with the espresso overwhelmed by the milk and the foam very wet (so in effect more like a milky flat white than a cappuccino ). Good buzz to the place, though.
Absolutely the best espresso drinks in Chicago. Also a great study space - or make use of their library or games collection w friends!
Best Mexican Mocha I've had every visit. Don't know what that is? Give it a try!
Dan Sinker : Located in Edgewater, this is a great place to grab an amazing cup of coffee and do some writing. If it’s warm, it’s just steps from the lake . http://bit.ly/v5tg6p
Very friendly staff and its a nice place to meet friends or colleague's short meeting.
my #1 favorite coffee shop in chicago . i'd live here, if they had rental units, super cozy , awesome atmosphere, and lends to getting work done!
Free wifi , great coffee , and super people. Ask if John is there and do your best Ditka impression. Tell em Dave sent ya.
Great coffee
I love this place ..great coffee , nice people and it is good spot for studying ....
Can't say it's the best but its ok. Decor and music are really nice. Coffee is good and strong.
There are mosquitoes on site at the Metropolis Coffee Shop.
Black coffee is the best I've had.. Beware long lines on mornings especially.

Locally roasted coffee and a cozy atmosphere make this coffee shop a favorite study spot for students.
The espresso cortado is delicious, get the double
Cool coffee shop in the hood.
Good local coffee shop with specialty roasts
The 8 oz cappuccino has just as much espresso but less milk than the 12 oz. Thanks to the unknown barista who told me this.
Having worked in coffee for 6 years, I like this place. ????
Metropolis is One of Chicago's Best kitchy coffee houses . Great coffee and service...
Best coffee in Chicago hands down! I've been coming ever since they first opened! Who'd a thought...Edgewater would have the best cafe in Chicago!
The Kansas City Fake Mustache Club finds Metropolis to be their FAVORITE location to visit for beverages in Chicago, with the BEST staff you could ask for.
Comfy environment, great coffee selection, and nicely located! - Majed
Servers are nice, great patio in the summer, perfect for relaxing and people watching. - Esra Tasdelen
good coffeeshop with a casual setting, friendly baristas. tell them you'll take a picture and they'll do their best for the latte art :) - Cem Hamami
Pizza is great, the salads and sandwiches are great too. Deserts are pricey, $6 for a 12 oz gelato shake... yikes. But they look incredible. - Christina Galanis
Love love love this place! Get the Thai basil with tofu! - Khadija Brewington
