平成元年に上皇陛下及び皇后陛下が国 へ寄贈された約6千点の絵画・書・工芸 品など及び、皇族の方々の寄贈品を保存管理するために作られた建物。一部を一般展示 しているスタンスのため展示 スペースは狭いが、皇室のものだけに美術展で言う目玉が多くを占める。
展示 品の大部分が撮影OKなのが良い。ロッカーは100円玉必要（返却されます）。

Beautiful & affordable museum. It gets stuffy in the hot months, but plenty of chairs and lounges are available to sit when you need. The national treasures cannot be photographed (but are online!) 😉 - LadyJupiter.com
Great for picnics and walking. There's also a lot of joggers, so if you're into a little exercise, it's a great place for that too. Best to go in may or October. - Jessalynne Peters
