Ess-a-Bagel was established in 1976 on 1st Avenue in the Gramercy section of Manhattan by Florence and Gene Wilpon and Florence’s brother Aaron Wenzelberg. Coming from an Austrian baking family, it is not surprising that within two years our hand-rolled bagels were voted the best in the Tri-St...

Great bagels with huge selection of cream cheeses and fillings. Perfect takeaway , eat-on-the-go breakfast .
Simply not the same. Old staff had a take it or leave it attitude that kept the line moving. No toasting, no nonsense. Now, bagel shortages and Six Flags length lines are the norm. Nuh-uh ☝🏼️
Excellent bagels , definitely along the best in NY. The breakfast sandwiches are massive carbocaloriebombs. Tho location is quieter than the other one too.
Love this NY classic in a new neighborhood . My favorite is smoke salmon on an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese . Yum!
New location; same great bagels . The line can be long, so grab a plain bagel and skip the wait.
Respetable folks and always fresh bagels . Ask and they can create almost anything asked for.
Best bagels in the city . I love that they have a separate line for people who are getting just bagels .
Amazing and classic NYC bagel place . Get there before 10am on saturdays to avoid the line .
Tasty lox . “Signature” bagel sandwiches are pricy but huge
Great breakfast sandwich . It’s worth the waiting line .
Hands down best bagels in manhattan. If there is a wait. Wait. It's worth it.
Ess-a-Bagel has returned! The new location also has a toaster.
They messed up our phone order, but bagel was doughy and fresh with a generous amount of cream cheese .
Ask for a bagel that just came out of the oven.
Excellent bagels ! Try the multigrain everything bagel !
If I had to come back I’d come only cause the staff is so so friendly !
Muy bueno, bacon , cheese and ham 😋
I think they had to hire all new staff . on a recent Saturday they were having trouble producing BAGELS, and the computerized registers were down.
Are you a real New Yorker if you don't love a good bagel ?
Best bagels in the city since H&H closed.
Cinnamon raisin bagel is amazing
Cold brew coffee + bagel = Happy Sunday morning
Smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese !
Everything is delicious here 😋
Best bagels in all of NYC
The best bagels in NYC
Pretty good bagels ... but think more delivery sandwiches were sent out than customers in line were served. Wait is almost obnoxious.
Best Bagel
Apparently the pandemic has had a serious affect - the young lady ahead of me asked for her bagel toasted and didn't get a) thrown out or b) struck by lightning. Still awesome bagels though
Now with more tables! And a real credit card reader! And a toaster...if you're into that kind of thing
Slow and they gave me the wrong bagel . Go to David's bagels instead
This place is not good. Egg and Cheese on a bagel was microwaved and tasteless. Only one side of the bagel had sesame seeds . Lazy and cheap operation. Look elsewhere.
Terribly disorganized line . Bagels with cream cheese very expensive . Good bagels though.
Average/ below average at best. Don’t bother standing in line
Love the whitefish and sable. Ask for whichever bagels are fresh out the oven. Great location. - Leah Hammerschlag
Fresh sliced lox FTW. Service was a bit chaotic and slicing could have been more consistent/thinner but I think it beats Ess-a and Zucker’s in the neighborhood. - David 🎉 Laster
Great and friendly staff who play good music! PS. Free wifi and tasty iced lattes makes it enjoyable place to work! - Irina
Excellent fresh fruit and often have good sales. Watch for them! - Leslie Adamski
