Like stepping back in time; Order a real kaffé creme, crêpes with apricot jam , lox on brown bread , and the spaetzle . You'll never know the great disservice you've done yourself if you skip dessert .
Pricey place, but it's Upper East, after all! Nice dining room and good waiters . Cake was excellent (I tried the Adele). Coffee also good. Eggs on creamed spinach w potatoes tasty lighter option.
Want to listen to some classical music , see Austrian aristocracy and taste warm, delicious Apfel Strudel in the morning? Very traditional Viennese cafe . Go for authentic Bratwurst after 11!
Amazing for a date. Coffee/tea and dessert recommended. Desserts are delightfully decadent. Espresso is perfected. Also, the bookstore - gorgeous, excellent and varied selection.
The deco is very European. the Kaiser pancake is what Ido came for after having had it in Vienna. But the apple strudel with whipped cream and coffee , Wonderful service, and such a delightful setting.

A European style cafe with Viennese food, pastry and coffee specialities accompanied with great chamber music . I found coffee a bit pricey but food is quite affordable .
The desserts might be the highlight: typical ones (apple strudel , quark cheesecake ) sit comfortably next to authentic Austrian fare such as mozarttorte, a chocolate cake with pistachio and nougat. Read more
For dessert the chilled coffee mit ice cream and whipped cream , and the shredded crepes soufflé with fruit compote were both excellent. The classic Viennese chocolate cake and the latte were ok.
Extremely expensive but also truly authentic from the decor to the wait staff to the food. If you're planning on treating yourself this is a great place to do it — otherwise go to the downstairs cafe .
Nestled inside the Neue Gallerie is a little piece of old Vienna. You should wait on line to break the diet with a Wiener Eiskaffee and Apfelstrudel or Sachertorte .
Kurt Gutenbrunner’s “civilized” Neue Galerie cafes transport you to “fin de siècle Vienna”, Café Sabarsky boasts authentic Viennese specialties and traditional pastries .

every time I come I get: trout crepes , bratwurst mit cheddar cheese , pretzel . I am never disappointed with these 3. for dessert get the shredded soufflé with fruit compote .
Great atmosphere, although there's often a wait. My usual is weisswurst (which comes with a warm soft pretzel ), strong coffee , and a slice of sachertorte .
If you are fond of German/Austrian food this is the spot for you. The bratwurst and the beet salad are very tasty!!!
YES: trout crepes , bratwurst sausage Mit cheddar cheese (I don't even like sausage ), pretzel . DESSERT : shredded soufflé with fruit compote , eiskaffee. NO: sandwiches ; tried 2 so far and they were meh.
Give your waiter back the menu and say the words "apple strudel ". You will want to order as many as you can afford ... You're welcome.
The food is delicious. A little bit fancy a little bit expensive but totally worth it. The desserts are out of this world, you MUST have one.
Order wiener melange if you d like to have a cappuccino . Topfentorte is such a lovely cheesecake . :)
Breakfast of soft boiled eggs and brioche is delish and the room is charming and comfortable . One of my best discoveries in NYC!
Adele Schnitte is a must, probably the best dessert I've ever had! Great décor, feels like in Vienna :).

The sachertorte here is awesome. Also love the German cafe vibe - you won't find it anywhere else in the city
Cod and borscht is great. The apple strudel too, but not as good as the hot chocolate .
Charming little space, great if you don't want to wait in line for the upstairs cafe
Authentic Austrian food right on museum mile. You can't go wrong with any of the meat dishes but you better save room for the apple strudel .
Lovely! A really nice and cozy place for winter and cold days.
Nicely decorated Cafe in a great location with impeccable service and superb desserts and drinks
Come and stay for a bite to eat after your visit to the gallery . Dessert and coffee is a must.
Excellent. Definitely get: smoked bratwurst mit cheddar cheese , smoked trout crepe . Meh: spread liverwurst sandwich . Coming soon: dessert .

Best cafe named after German Batman in town .
Apple strudel , coffee , music , service, atmosphere
Good cakes but very pricey ... expect 20$+ for a tea and a piece of cake . Same price as the entry ticket for the Neue Gallerie
A bit expensive , but worth every dollar. Lovely place to grab coffee and cake .
If you're craving an Eiskaffee (coffee with ice cream ), this is the place to get it.
Try the apple strudel !
Great place to pause after an art exhibit with a coffee and pastry
Amazing hidden gem in the basement that is rarely full. It doesn’t have the same wine list but everything else is there which is great if you just want desserts. - Siobhán
Homemade liverwurst appetizer is impossibly delicious. Katja is a wonderful hostess! - Shannon Leslie
Good Austrian spot in an unassuming area of FiDi. Their branzino is delicious but it's not on the menu as often as it was previously. - Amanda Rella
