The Museum provides a powerful lesson in the fragility of freedom, the myth of progress, and the need for vigilance in preserving democratic values. The Museum teaches millions of people each year about the dangers of unchecked hatred and the need to prevent genocide.

Great museum , very educational . You should get a bit early to get tickets to other exhibits . Also we really liked that they had a memorial wall about other nations who had genocide
The permanent exhibition tells the full story of the Holocaust by the use of actual objects rescued by survivors and Allied liberators of the concentration camps and ghettos, oral histories, etc... Read more
If you don't already have a ticket for the main exhibit , you will need to get on line EARLY to get a ticket for the same day. I'd recommend arriving at least 45 minutes prior to ticket dispersal.
Go early, or right when it opens, the memorial room is so powerful when it's empty
If you couldn’t get a ticket, you can always donate to become a museum member so you can see the permanent exhibition .
Go early to have enough time to see it all, videos and lots to read. No for kids. Teens and up.
Visit the permanent exhibition . You can get the tickets online, https://www.etix.com/ticket/online/. It's a sad museum , but it will motivate you to fight for social injustice and discrimination.
Awesome place. Make sure to check out the exhibit on the bottom floor. It's called Remember the Children: Daniel's Story. Built for kids, but don't let that stop you. It's great for adults, too.
One of the most emotional and humble places I have ever been. Anyone that goes to DC *must* visit to gain perspective of what people are capable to do
Take the tour . Its well worth it. I spent about 3 hours in this museum , it has 4 stories full of the history of the holocaust and WWII in general. Leaves you speechless
DO NOT miss this exhibit ! Get tickets ahead or arrive before 10am to claim a day pass. The line starts early but we got right in!
It’s a lot to see and take in. Easy to reserve a ticket online and check in on arrival. Be quiet and respectful.
Don't skip this museum ! It is very well done; it is a forced self guided museum that goes in historical order. Quick facts, interesting new information that you don't routinely see.
This is one of the hardest museums to get through but one of the best presentations you will ever see. The room with the shoes will never leave my mind.
Fortunate to have VIP tour on April 22 1993. Can't believe all the color movie films throughout the museum . And the stack of shoes was very powerful. The Museum provides a powerful lesson today 2023
Takes 3-4 hours to experience the whole museum . Learned a lot about history of Holocaust and how it impacted the world. Some exhibits are difficult to swallow but necessary to see.
The emotional power it has is incredible. Margit Meissner (95 year old Holocaust survivor) was there and sharing some stories along the exhibit . I would recommend everyone to go there.
Make sure to check out the children's art exhibit where children explain their thoughts & feelings of the Holocaust on tiles hanging on a wall. You could spend hours trying to read them all!
Museum is really well done. Try to get your tickets in advance or be ready to line up very early. Truly moving exhibits .
Great experience to understand the horrible costs of prejudice and hatred. We can all learn from these lessons and also celebrate those who stood up to those who committed those atrocities .
Beautiful and very moving. Met a survivor who was kind enough to share his story. He had us in tears.
Educational and inspirational experience for all. Be sure to get an identification card from Guest Services on the 1st floor. Then check out all 4 floors. ID cards available in Braille as well .
Extremely thorough history of the holocaust; all aspects are included - the rise of Hitler, other groups persecuted by Hitler, what happened afterwards, etc; impressive amount of artifacts .
Very emotional place. Showes both inhumanity of some and the compassion and courage of others. I think all should go through it so such events are never repeated.
The most missed museum ! This is hands down the best/well thought out collection of history that I have ever experienced
Some of the footage or photos may disturb you, but it's important to make yourself bear witness (as Eisenhower did) so we as humans can make sure these kind of atrocities don't happen again.
A very respectful and artistic experiential exhibit for those looking to know more about the horrors of the Holocaust. Must do in DC.
Military , including retirees, may get tickets to the permanent exhibit (for entire family) any time by visiting the information desk even if all tickets have been distributed for the day.
Very historically informative in a tasteful way. All graphic images/information is blocked off so you can make the choice of what to see. Excellent museum .
I really like this museum ! Just make sure to plan on being there for at least 2-3 hours if you wanna see everything since there're 4 levels.
Get there early to make sure you get one of the limited number of passes they issue per day otherwise you can't see the permanent collection. Security is tight for a reason! Don't complain!
Let's be honest: the most complete Holocaust Museum is Yad Vashem. Having said that, the USHMM is still a must do in DC. Just don't forget to bring tissues.
Hey look into the truth of humanities deepest and darkest side. As well as a look at the incredible resiliency of human beings will to survive
This is a D.C. MUST SEE. Ive been to numerous holocaust memorials and this is by far the most powerful and insightful. Don't go on the weekend - it's too packed and people are disrespectful
Amazing museum , beautiful and touching. Recommend it to everyone, although it might be too graphic for small children.
Best museum in town ! Very tough though, u'll might not hold your crying but worth the visit.
This is a heart-wrenching and amazing experience that I would recommend for people of all ages. Tickets are free, but there's almost always a long line , so go early.
If you're planning on seeing other sights the same day, stop in early for the Permanent Exhibit tickets, then come back. The tickets are gone fast. Very moving, somber. Important.
Very moving museum . Be sure to view the permanent installation and the story of the children. Sadly it's disrespected by the various student tour groups. Avoid them to truly experience the museum .
Amazing museum . Absolutely a must-see in DC. Everyone needs to be educated on this horrible time in history and ensure it never happens again.
Get there a few minutes before the museum opens to beat the extremely long line . Try not to be bummed out for the rest of the day.
An extremely moving museum ..spent my whole visit fighting back the urge to cry. Daniel's Story is a great way to introduce kids to the atrocity of the Holocaust.
The memorial is very emotional and at the end of the visit they have current atrocities
Daniels Story is a great way for kids, as well as adults to understand and listen to the hardships children went through. Great experience, and very "hands on."
If you don't have time to enter, but the battery on your phone is dying, there are some outlets on the outside of the building.
If you are into history, than this is surely the place to visit. I hope that everyone sees this Memorial Museum someday... - Penina Mezei
If you think you know about the holocaust from watching movies , you don't. Visit this museum and be respectful of what you're seeing when you do.
What is there to say that hasn't been said. Though as far as museums go, there's a lot of reading and video watching. Not many displays.
Nicely organized museum . Go early to get a ticket with a time to come back for admission.

It's safe to say we never realized how important the Postal Service was until we learned of its extensive history here. Great exhibits and tons of knowledge. - Insider Perks
This was probably one of the best museums I've visited. It is for all ages and the admission is free! I can recommend going here especially if you are into planes, like me :) - Camilla
