Very scenic , probably one of the best spots in DC. Lots of history, and often the center of protests, political movements and activity. Near lots of fun and entertaining things to do.
Go on a clear day. The views from just about every vantage point are amazing. Try to stay close to the elevator doors on the descent as you will get a good view of many of the memorial plaques inside.
Beautiful spot in Washington, great view of DC, very well kept, Illumination during the night is amazing!! You need a ticket to enter into the monument .
The WM is closed until spring 2019. But you can still do a walking tour to see the monuments and museums around the National Mall . If you love history and our country then you won't be disappointed.

Completed in 1884,5 years b4 the Effiel Tower, @555 ft, this was the tallest bldg in the world then. Now it is the tallest structure in Washington DC. Great views all round at the top. Free admission .

While often considered part of the Mall , the Monument Grounds have always been a separate reservation . The obelisk designed by Robert Mills was constructed over an extended period from 1848 to 1884.

The Washington Monument is a large, pre-War obelisk at the center of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It is a United States Presidential Memorial constructed to honor George Washington.
This is the tallest stone structure and you can get a chance to go to the observation level and see around 50 miles in all directions. I would not recommend walking to the observation level.
If you plan on going up make sure to have tickets, you can get them online, otherwise you'll have to wait in line in the morning

You can wait in line very early and try to get a ticket to go to the top or you can pay $1.25 to reserve a ticket before your visit.

Make sure you go all the way to the top. It's got a view of the DC like the Eiffel Tower has of Paris almost. Another must see.
