312 inducted in the 2016 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's In Memory program for those who returned from Vietnam only to die due to their service. They died in Vietnam, but their bodies didn't know.
The Memorials must be seen on foot: group them into 2 or 3 at one visit; then take a meal break or save some for another day. The sites are also beautiful at night with ample lighting. -- Green Guide

Beautiful Vista, great to see the names of so many that have fallen. Tons of veterans visit, so it's always a great way to get to know the sacrifices some have made.
Fantastic for reflection, figuratively and literally. Great memorial, and a must-visit in the area.
That also includes the recent veteran’s day wreaths as well . PLEASE do not move or touch them, please By The Way.
Look for the little symbols next to the names. A diamond means they died. A cross means they were Missing In Action and a filled in cross signifies that they were MIA but later found
Very moving memorial. We visit every time we are in D.C. to pay respects to those who sacrificed all for our freedom.
Designed by Maya Lin while a student at Yale (for which she received a 'B'). More than 150K objects have been left here over yrs including Harley Davidson and tiger cage. Full site history here<LINK> Read more
This is a quiet space of reflection. You can feel the weight of history here, and even still see its impact with flowers laid about the monument .
Don't touch or move the memorials placed at the foot of the wall. These pieces are preserved and cataloged by the Smithsonian for "The Price We Pay" Exhibit at the Museum of American History.
If you have a relative that has their name on the wall- someone will do a rubbing for you to take home. Just find their name in the books nearby
This was a special one to see -- very moving and very crowded . Avoid (war) holidays like Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and consider a week day visit.
Keep your voice down, control your children and walk by the wall in awe. Also, if it's raining or the ground is still wet, the walkway can get pretty slippery.
vvmf.org: learn how to add name of Vietnam Veteran to Memotial Wall - the names of those who died post-war, but a as result of it (ie: SDC/USMC Capt, in 2004)
Very powerful experience, even on my second visit.
I got a knot in my throat and I got all teary! The monument is a couple of feet away from Abraham Lincoln's memorial. "Freedom is not free"
All of the items left in memory for the fallen are collected and saved by the park service.
Check out the book with all the names so you can find someone fast on the wall. I made this a must on my list of places to stop.
The black granite wall was constructed as a place of healing and reconciliation for the families, friends and supporters of the more than 58,000 slain or missing soldiers .
A place to remain all those heroes who gave their life for their country . Please, be quiet and pay attention to these walls
Head here on Veterans Day weekend to see some touching tributes.
Powerful memorial . A diamond means they died. A cross next to the name means they were lost. If it has a circle on the cross means they found them. No name has a circle next to it...
The names are in chronological order, starting and ending at the middle of the wall
New part coming soon, dedicated to the memorabilia people/family/loved ones leave at the Wall.

Very touching to see. Don't take any of the notes left behind. The smithsonian keeps them all!
There's a giant book along the grass that helps you find your loved one's name, as the wall is not sorted alphabetically.
Designed by Maya Lin and completed in 1982, the two black granite walls are 246’9’’ long. Names on the walls are of servicemen KIA or MIA listed in chronological order. See video for more info. Read more
Don't miss this phenomenal memorial for those who gave all.
I make my annual photojournalistic pilgrimage here every year during Memorial Day weekend + Rolling Thunder. Amazing people & moments to shoot & meet. See me there!
The memorial currently consists of three separate parts: the Three Soldiers statue , the Vietnam Women's Memorial & the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, where over 58,000 names are engraved.
You can't visit this site and NOT be moved. If you have friends/family on 'The Wall' be sure to grab a pencil and paper to "rub off" their names.
A very special place for me my dad SSGT Daniel Holcomb and other Vietman Soldiers who fought and loss their lives
Of all the memorials in DC this is the one that feels like a gut punch.

Do not just walk by it and say this is another monument . Stop and look at your image and imagine that you are part of the wall. Do it you will understand!
Well cared for and moving monument !
A wonderful tribute to Our Nation's Heroes!????????????
One of the best memorials I've seen. Simple.
It's really something. Impossible to go there and not have goosebumps.
58,261 names, missing denoted with a cross : if their death is confirmed, a diamond is superimposed over the cross . Directories are located on nearby podiums so that visitors may locate specific names.
Design geek? Google “making the memorial” for an essay by Maya Lin , the architect. Simplicity is hard.
Try to see either very early or late in the day otherwise very crowded
Go on a day it doesn't rain, was pouring today and didn't get to really take it all in
An amazing and somber memorial reminding us that freedom is not always free.
Very worthwhile monument to visit. It makes you realize how much was sacrificed.
Thank you for your service. Welcome home!????????????????????
