Tian Tan Buddha is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. It's a major centre of Buddhism in HK & is also a popular tourist attraction . Welcome everybody to ask me questions about Hong Kong.
There's no easy way to visit the Buddha. You just have to walk 268 steps uphill and down afterward. The view of the Buddha as well as the surrounding view from above are worth the climb. Read more
A popular HK tourist attraction , Tian Tan Buddha is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. There's a short climb up, should be ok for most - my 3yo managed fine ;) The scenic views are worth it!
Hong Kong tour is not complete without visiting this place. Nice view from the top and you can see beautiful scenery of the island . Wear comfortable clothes as you’ll do lot of walking here.
I visited on a Friday afternoon and didn't have to wait in line to buy my ticket. I took the ferry there and the cable car the way back to HK. It was one of the main highlights of my vacation.
It's truly big. Worth the walk up to get a closer look and gaze onto the monestary from above. Going inside requires a ticket, but you can walk around outside for free.
Do a little exercise to get awesome view , it's worth the climb 😉 It's actually better to get express lane when it's crowded . Show at the theater is nice~ carefully manage your time 😇
Most magnificent & soul inspiring place! Even 2 hours queues wait for the cable car ride to get there, but it was definitely worth waiting. Spectacular view ! Incredible experience!
The statue is 34 metres tall, weighs over 250 metric tons, and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. You will have to walk up a flight of 268 steps to reach to the peak. Very impressive!
The cable car is worth it! The views and vistas are amazing. I don’t really care about the fat man on top!
Awesome cable car ride that’s a engineering marvel. The Ngong Ping village is also a lovey and enjoyable experience . Worth it!
Really cool Hong Kong icon to see make sure on a hot day you have some refreshments as there's a massive set of steps to get up! Also some amazing views at the top
Great place to check out the gigantic buddha, but go after having a meal. Avoid the food up there - it's vile. Take the scenic gondola up from Tung Chung village (near HK airport ).
Definitely see the free Kung-Fu show near the Buddha. It is only 15 minutes and it was awesome!
Whooaaaa such a place a great view , you will not regret it. Even after scary ridding with the crystal cable car still it's worth it!!!
With my one day of potential sunshine I made the trek out to Lantau island to explore the mountain . Tian Tan is the largest outdoor seated bronze Buddha in the world with many paths to wander.
Definitely worth a visit when staying in Hong Kong. Get there by cable cars starting from Ngong Ping station. Be sure to be there before 11 am at the weekend to prevent long waiting in line .
259 steps to the top but worth it. Check out the history of how the statue came to be in the museum up too!
Lovely place ♥ Stand into the center of a round platform in front of steps to Buddha statue and say something! Trust me ;)
A very nice place, quite a long trip on a cable car and it was foggy :'( .. Upon reaching Ngong Ping, the place was some sort of a village that leads towards the Big Buddha ...
A fun and cultural excursion, the town leading up to the Buddha was fun to walk through and the sky gondola was a good way to take in the scenic view .
Taking a cable car to the place can be very scary for some people who are afraid of height when it's windy and foggy. So, I guess checking the weather before going there might help!
Peaceful please, you have a surrounding shops and minimarkets scaffold through the area plus a Starbucks Starbucks lovers
If the vegetarian rest is too crowded or the food too oily/simple for u, try the veg options at the garden restaurant in Ngong ping, especially the sweet and sour chicken (tofu ) and the tai chi soup
I went in the early afternoon and the statue was a silhouette in front of the blinding sun. I enjoyed the experience but earlier or later would have been better.
Worth the trip and the vegetarian meal was also delicious. Even tho the cable car is kind of expensive and a stupid long line it was an amazing view
If you have no fear of heights, take the Ngong Ping cable car : it is a nice experience! You should probably plan to get here about 9, the queue gets really bad later on. Be ready for the stairs !
Nice scenery. Have to pay extra to walk up to the Buddha. Many restaurants around the village . Don't forget to take pictures of the 12 zodiac generals..
Cable car ride to the Giant Buddha, vegetarian meal at the Po Lin monastery and the Giant Buddha up close after climbing the stairs
When there’s heavy fog, you can barely see the merch shops, that makes the place look both majestic and really spooky 👻
An amazing trip to the Po Lin monastery and Giant Buddha. Climb up 268 stairs - you'll get to see the breath-taking view on Hong Kong
The view is really nice and it seems like there is some beautiful beach out there as well ,should go check it out.Of course u have to try the cable car !
Quite impressive experience, especially with all the stair climbing. The view from the top is stunning
There is a hidden little restaurant right after the village (to the left). Get the fried noodles with spicy sauce .. really good and different!
Great climb to the top. Windy and great scenic view of the island as well .
Buy a meal ticket (for the nearby monastery ) and get access to the exhibit inside the Buddha (nothing spectacular). They take credit cards which is handy as no ATM in the village .
To enter the exhibition hall and see the bone relic, head to the vegetarian restaurant at the monastery and get your meal ticket first.
Climbing all those steps to the Buddha may make you peckish, refuel at neighbouring Ngong Ping Village for a traditional Buddist vegetarian meal .
First answer: nothing. But then, coming from a completely different background than the Chinese one, everything is interesting. The large Buddha statue is impressive, even more if it is in clouds.
I really enjoyed the Cable Car . The view is just so beautiful. :)
Great view . So much to see up at the top. I really loved it. I have done it several times now.
Before going double or triple check if the cable car is operating..it's now closed for 6months!!! So you need to use buses
Besides the Buddha, also make some time to hike aroud the place. They have great trails to follow through nature.
Climb all the way to the top to enjoy a great view of all of Ngong Ping Village .
A must when in Hong Kong. Well worth the climb for the spectacular view .
Amazing Buddha Statue ... climb the stairs , it is worth it!
On the way up to the Big Buddha statue from the cable car , there's this Taiwanese tea shop in the market area. Stop there to grab a drink - there are many varieties!
It is free to reach the lotus crown but you have to buy the ticket to go inside the Buddha body.
Amazing statue . Worth the effort of going up the steps
Good climb to the top. Windy with nice scenery of the island
