Koko Head Crater Trail is a hiking trail Hawaii Kai Honolulu located in United States.
Honolulu , HI 96825 United States
It’s pretty straightforward - just walk to the top. Easier said than done, but the view is so worth it. Bring water and aim to go in the evening or early morning to avoid the heat of the sun!
Last third of the ascent is the toughest but the view is well worth the effort. If you're moderately in shape, you'll be able to make it to the top with some honest breaks in between.
Bring water and pace yourself! It's worth it! Go for the sunrise and bring some food for the top. The hike down is a bit strenuous on the knees so bring hiking poles if you can!
Plan for an early AM hike , as the ascent is 1200ft & 1.5mi's. VERY steep twd's the end. A bridge section is suspended by RR ties only so acrophobiacs will ALSO find this challenging . Rewarding hike .
Awesome hike . Good for anyone around 12 and up. View from the top is splendid. If you're in really good shape, try and scale it in 20 mins
Short but strenuous, this uphill hike offers panoramic views of east Honolulu and Hanauma Bay . A popular trail among visitors and locals, you'll want to go early and avoid the weekends.
Be sure to keep hydrated and bring plenty water for yourself. Best time to go IMO is sunrise or sunset during cooler temperatures. Try and avoid high sun and peak heat
Use the trail that goes alongside the bridge if you don't want to go over the bridge . Also, when you reach the top of the stairs, make sure to take the trail up for a 360 view !
One of the best views on Oahu and great cardio ! It's an easy trail but the hike is long and step. Being water and wear as little as possible.
Tough hike , but so worth it at the end! Bring water , and that's probably all you'll want to carry up there except maybe a camera . Dress for heat.
The trail is really hard but this is the best place for look the sunrise !!!!! Love it!!!! 20-25 minuts to be on the top!!!! 13 minuts my time:))) try to be more Fast if u can
Crazy workout! Get ready to feel the burn in your quads plus every other surface of your expose skin. Feels like torture. Bring a towel and water. Watch your step coming down as it can get slippery.
Climb it! 39min and me and my wife are both on the top! Views are worth the effort!
Perfect for a sunrise hike ! It's steep, but short . If you take lots of breaks even beginner hikers can enjoy it.
Amazing views . Go early (around 6-7am) to beat other people trying to go up, since it gets busy with tourist
Favorite trail in Oahu. Home Depot was sponsoring a trail upkeep day and we helped carry stone up the trail in buckets.
it’s a tough clim but the view is amazing. took a slow and steady phase and it worked???????????????? worth it !
Check out the cave just beyond the top of the stairs. It's deeper than you think and has a couple side rooms.
Get there early and take your time till you reach the top. The view is beautiful.
Bring sunscreen and water . Breathtaking view from the top . Go early to avoid crowds .
Park at the Koko Trail Head. Walk the path all the way to the top of the crater. Take your phone and check in with Foursquare from the top. You're the king of the world!
Advanced trail , highly elevated so air is thin making it hard to breath. Bring a bottle water and don't be afraid to take as many breaks as u need.
Bring water , lots of it. Pace yourself and take breaks. And take lots of photos!
Challenge your wind on the way up & your agility on the way down. Oh, & don't stop at the end of the tracks . The view is on the other side!!
Worth the effort. Bring water .
Challenging climb with a rewarding view from the top!
Great hike and is good for exercise and to get back into shape! The view is pretty good, too. :) So it is your reward for reaching the top.
The go early tip is not to be ignored. There is no shade and heat makes it that much harder. Bring water . It may only be a mile, but a strenuous one (even challenging for an athlete)
Stunning views all around. But it's not for the faint of heart..
Very intense scenic hike on remainings of old railroad
Take your time, enjoy the challenge , and celebrate your accomplishments big or small!
BRING WATER ! I got very dehydrated on the way up because I did not bring enough... Also, may not be good for those who are not in shape
You'll be hurting afterwards but well worth it! Takes about 45-60min to go up.
You know this is serious when you don't see the same horde of little Japanese tourist girls from diamond head anymore
The pink section is a little hairy and scary...be extremely careful w every step.
be sure to bring water , a hat, and wear sunscreen !! esp. if you end up there during peak hours (it can get pretty hot). >_<
Bring wata! And take your time. You will get up there eventually.
Use a camelback on all hikes . Frees your hands up for better balance and pace.
If you can climb to the top in 15 minutes I'm impressed!
Most favorite hike ever!
About 1,500 railroad steps ???? the view is awesome though!
A great one hour Walk above Hanauma Bay and if you need more Adventure hike down to The Baboon Head for a heart pounding Cardio Work Out. Aloha Eki
Take your time and as many breaks as you need. Careful on the way down.
Bring lots of hydration!
The ultimate stairmaster! I was sore for days, but definitely worth the view !
This pic was taken from the lookout above Koko Head Terrace and Koko Head District Park .
Early morning 6-10 is a great time to go. Or 4-630 in the afternoon. Or anytime on an overcast day
Make sure to bring water !
You will feel the pain for 3 days.
Go early before the sun comes up
