This Warhol is permanent, but the real gems are in the temp exhibits . However, "NO PICTURES!!", so take my word for it. The surrealist 'Marvelous Objects' has Dali's famous lobster phone on display.
In my opinion, best museum in DC. They have an excellent collection of both well known and unheard of contemporary artists and the architecture of the building really adds to the overall experience.
This gallery is great, especially if you're not looking to spend an entire day inside- it's easy to navigate and can be done in an hour or two.
Excellent collection of modern and contemporary art . Make sure you walk each floor, including the lower level.
Beautiful museum , free entrance. Ideal place for a date or to hang out either inside or outside by the terrace . Interesting exhibitions . Definitely worth a visit!
If you like Modern and Contemporary Art , then this is a 'must see'. The purpose built facility is incredible and it's amazing that it's free!
The Ai Weiwei exhibit is great. Definitely budget enough time to watch the full documentary video at the end of the circle that gives great insight into his motivations.
Favorite. Sculpture garden and multi-level modern art museum in the heart of the mall ; usually overlooked since few people can figure out the entrance. Worth the detour.
Do not miss this smaller D.C. museum ; it's a real gem. Modern and abstract art reign supreme here. Excellent galleries . A real treat.
Love this collection of modern and contemporary art . See something new every time.
Wonderful gallery space and design with an emphasis on taking you through a history of Modern Art . Worth checking out.
Best museum in DC for contemporary art lovers! They also host really interesting talks and it's free
Infinity Mirrors is a highly anticipated exhibit of Japanese artist , Yayoi Kusama . Visitors will discover captivating Infinity Mirror Rooms and a selection of her other key works.
This free Smithsonian Institution houses international modern and contemporary art : Francis Bacon , Yoko Ono, Barbara Kruger, and dozens of others whose works sparks debate and wonderment.
One of my favorite museums on the mall . I love that they use the curve of the building to some of the projects’ advantage
There is a really awesome space called ArtLab+ for 13-19 yo in the hirshhorn sculpture garden to engage in digital arts and learn really cool skills. There's a 3d printer too!
Breathtaking, this place has so much to offer! The exhibitions are perfectly put together. Admission is always free!!
One of my favorite modern art dc museums . There's always a cool exhibit to see.
Definitely hit the Yayoi Kusama exhibit while you can. On a weekday.
A less-visited (read: not as packed) Smithsonian museum showing great contemporary art in a great building.
Phenomenal. Check out the Pulse exhibit . It’s only there for a limited time but it’s absolutely worth it
The exhibits change every few months so there’s always a reason to comeback and see
Great space for temporary exhibits with great views of the mall
Each floor is a giant loop, which means you always end where you began so there's no panic that you might've missed something.
Situated behind the Washington Mall , take in contemporary works of art by Matisse, Picasso and Pollock or relax in the sculpture garden with a cup of tea .
It was okay, best part was the room with the boat because it had good vibes.Enjoyed the cafe and gelato at the cafe on ground level: DOLCEZZA
The museum 's central fountain , inspired by Old Faithful, surges with the ebb and flow of DC’s sewage system.
Don't miss Friday gallery talks at 12:30 pm at the home of the world's more comprehensive collection of 20th century works. -- Green Guide Editor
The art of destruction is less interesting than the photos of the Detroit dentist building. http://iliketowastemytime.com/2012/01/05/frozen-in-time-ruins-of-old-detroit-photos
Don't miss this museum ! So many fantastic contemporary art exhibits to see from artists like Andy Warhol and Ai WeiWei.
So much to see, so much to think about! Great collection and fantastic building! Free entry.
More Andy Warhol than you can shake a stick at! Make sure you read his description of the exhibit . He's a lot more practical than you imagine, and more genius than you think.
Small museum with nice collection of modern art
When I went they had a history of art exhibit , and one to do with visual pleasures to the eyes.
Make sure you check out the kusama show. Amazeballs !!!
Love this museum . I'm just a little sad that they removed The Cube Light. That was my favorite exhibit .
The museum is very strange but some pictures are really worth seeing them.
Check out the huge leather couch on the 3rd floor with a fabulous view of the Washington, D.C. skyline !!
Fantastic art here!
Neat space, and a relatively new curator is doing a nice job with the selection.
Friendly staff & guides, beautiful exhibitions , very well organised.
Don't miss the view from the balcony of the Lerner room on l3
A wonderful gem of a museum !
The Cinema Effect exhibit was AWESOME! :) One of my faves of the Smithsonians on the Mall ! Check it out! No need rush!
On the third floor there's a great window to use for people watching .
Modern art is very strange.
Great Modern art collection in an impressive building
Check out the black culture exhibit on the lower level.
The Laurie Anderson floor is worth the trip for sure.
