National Gallery of Art - West Building

Fantastic museum . Free to the public. Lots of oils, water colors and sculptures from lots of the Masters.Great collection in beautiful setting. Can be a maze so definitely take a map or the audio tour

Did you know? The only Da Vinci in the Western Hemisphere, Ginevra de' Benci is also one of the artist’s early experiments with oil paint. Wrinkles indicate that he was still learning the new medium. Read more

OMG I’m in love with this museum . The art collection here is a must see. The building also is so well designed for its purpose.

Be it relaxing by the fountain (end of the West Building corridor), admiring any of the permanent collection pieces or enjoying the temporary exhibitions , you can never go wrong by visiting the NGA!

Excellent quality museum . Made of three buildings - wear comfy shoes . Could stay all day. Extensive stationery selection in gift shop .

Excellent Renaissance, Dutch, & post-Impressionist collections. Free. Restaurant usually has a menu by a well known DC chef , inspired by a current exhibition . Free concerts at 6.30 each Sunday.

This is the only place in the Western Hemisphere to see a Leonardo da Vinci. If that isn’t reason enough, then free admission to Western art from the middle ages thru the Impressionists ought to be.

When you go into the Impressists, view each painting from different distances. Up close you only see the brush strokes, but compare it to when you view it from across the room.

You cant miss the west wing! Extensive collection by the best European and American painters and sculptors. Hugs impressionists collection

If you enjoy light, water, or happiness, definitely walk through the underground passage to the East Building.

They just don't build public buildings like this anymore. The center rotunda is one of the most impressive places in DC.

Participate in concerts they have on Sundays, 6.30pm, come in advance to take a place. Around you are greens and flowers . Awesome

Very cool art museum with lots of rotating and permanent exhibits . Good but overpriced food in the café .

The older art is in this building. For more modern pieces, check out the East building.

Try the daily free tours : for those who don't know much about art , the tours provide a starting point on appreciating the art . For the pros, the discussions are definitely engaging.

Raphael's St. George slaying the dragon is a small painting not to be missed! You can imagine the artist enjoying himself as he painted this individually sized work.

Fabulous collection of art free for all to enjoy

Especially love west wing, where 2 sisters' eyes follow you across the room.

If you don't have much time, ask for the highlights flyer. You can see these in an hour. Great stuff.

Sunday afternoons / evenings, they offer free performances in the rotunda. Gorgeous music , beautiful surroundings, no admission price - what more can you ask?

As an art lover be sure to allow for a nice walk through. Gelato between the East and West Galleries is the best!

It's art but a great place to cool off during a humid summer day

The Cascade Cafe gives a 10% discount for Federal employees. That helps offset the high prices that all the gallery/museum cafes seem to be charging these days. The selection here is great as well .
