Central Texans who want to take a short drive to a beautiful beach can look no farther than Mustang Island . Port Aransas is at the northern end, and a roadway to Padre Island is on the southern tip.
The facilities are lacking for a park with that much traffic. But the beach access is convenient and the Junior Ranger packs are great.
Camping on the beach is free and you're allowed to have campfires . Bring a trash bag to help clean up the trash that washes up or pick one up in the visitor's center
Keeps me coming back for more... Stay close to the established beach road or prepare to dig your car/truck out of the sand!
Private state park . Costs a little extra to get in, but worth it ????
Great place for alone time bc the stretch is large. Clean up your trash before you leave
