明治42年に開館した日本初の本格的 美術館 。設計はJ.コンドルの弟子で宮廷建築 家の片山東熊であり、中央と左右にドーム屋根を頂く特徴的な構造は、明治末期の洋風建築 を代表する建物である。現在は常設展示 は行われておらず、休憩場所として一般開放されているが、特別展開催時には展示 場所として使用される場合がある。
今アラビア関連の展示会 やってますが、初めて触れるアラブ圏の歴史文化に触れるのにちょうどわかりやすい内容です。
2013年9月18日、1階の一部が休憩スペースとしてオープンしました。
建物自体が素晴らしい。

Beautiful & affordable museum. It gets stuffy in the hot months, but plenty of chairs and lounges are available to sit when you need. The national treasures cannot be photographed (but are online!) ???? - LadyJupiter.com
