Pork & eggplant miso : too much meat (a little over cooked too) & not enough eggplant ... ????????
Miso eggplant : sweet & savory, really yummy! ????????
Miso cod and miso eggplant are 2 of the best items on the menu.
Great place for sushi at a reasonable price.
Family style , the large hamachi kama was super yum
Agemochi (deep fried rice cake ): yummy! ????????
Got the takoyaki , pork and mushroom , agedashi tofu , spicy tuna salad and all were superb.
Love this place! Saba is super yummy!
The chicken karaage and miso cod are really good. The agedashi tofu is just okay.
Go to Izakaya Mai for dinner and try the small plates and have a beer . Order the spicy tuna salad and miso eggplant pork are delicious.
3 items bento : Saba Shio , chicken teriyaki & vege tempura : meh... ????????
Champon - their top seller. Huge! $9.50

Try the ika sugata. It's one of their specialities.
Green tea ice-cream Anmitsu: pretty good! ????
Late night good food downtown San Mateo
Spicy crab salad , champon noodle soup , and hamachi Kama are some of locals favorites!
I preferred the chirashi . Ika squid thing is kinda burnt!
The mini udon and dynamite roll keep me coming back every time.
Awesome authentic Japanese food ... Agedashi Tofu is delicious and everything is served in a traditional, simple Japanese way!! Read more
small place, one of the better ones in SM. owner is super friendly and gives little goodies to the kids.
White tuna salad : pretty good! ????
Agedashi mochi !! Also nice and slightly different futomaki.
Okonomiyaki is delicious!
Takoyaki , pretty good!
The miso cod is so good.
Yaki origiri: a little dry but taste ok
Try the Yaki-onigiri and hamachi-kama and you're pretty much set...
The agedashi MOCHI is deliciously different
Baked squid legs : ok... ????
Would avoid. Table was dirty even after a requested wipe down. Service was slow and food over priced in comparison to its neighbors. Not worth it.
Salmon chazuke, ok...
The tacomaki was good..
This was a good place but not anymore the food is so so now.
Careful of the steep stairs to the downstairs area!
Rainbow roll not worth it. Drive 5 min down to Tomokazu (Burlingame) for a way better roll for the same price
Takoyaki is available, although it's not always listed on the menu.
Look up and watch the train go around
Grill and sushi , be prepared to wait on the weekends
Spicy tuna salad !!
Takoyaki FTW
Combination of good quality, large rolls and good prices. My favorite spot for sushi in downtown SM. - Mitch Ginsburg
First time here. Just opened. Loved it. Recommend highly. Get the Firecracker roll. - Matt Frischer
Try the spicy miso pork, bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes, ginko nuts & shishito peppers! - Yoko Rizzo
The tapioca milk tea is the best. Egg puffs are much better than Eggettes, too! - jennifer s.
Smaller screens but sure to get a ticket for blockbusters on same day too and lots of free parking space near the theater and under the caltrain station. Great downtown to have dinner before movie. - Srikanth Jandhyala
