Small but lovely museum , and blissfully uncrowded compared to most others. Signs do a better job of telling you what you're looking at than museums with more familiar subjects.
A gem of the Smithsonian museums . It is much smaller and much quieter then the other ones. Go and enjoy this fabulous place.
95% of museum is located underground! Was originally located in home of former slave/abolitionist Frederick Douglass from 1817-1877. Contains masks, instruments and ceramics. More site info via<LINK> Read more
Another great art museum not often frequented by tourists . A small but intriguing collection of African art and a nice gift shop as well .
The Cosby Collection is interesting. It's a bit of a stretch to make it connect since Cosby's collection doesn't include a lot of African art .
Great artwork. Workshop for children. Gift shop is amazing.
Interesting art museum - lots of different types of media. Very nice.
Get your tickets early! Their "Africa After Dark" parties at the museum are always a sellout and a guaranteed good time!
The collection includes an ivory hunting horn from Sierra Leone and even a wooden door of the Tsogo peoples.-- Green Guide Editor
Great combo of historical and modern
Beautiful lay out and incredible art .
Beautiful arts from across all of Africa
Small but a lot to taken. Plan for at least an hour & a half.
Love this little jewel box museum--a nice quick respite
President & Laura Bush announced their 2008 trip to Africa here. They visited Benin, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Liberia to discuss how to strengthen democracy, overcome poverty, & save lives.
It's ok. Take time and avoid crowds by coming early.
Rude staff . Talked about having affairs in their marriages and were loud . Seemed we were more of an intrusion than customers. Sad because the art really is amazing and should be observed respectfully
