This is an amazing place! I highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area. The fort interior closes at 6pm, and the gates to the park close at 8pm. There's great shelling to be had on the beach .
A must visit for families/ history buffs . The Fort has several restored rooms. Wear bug spray. Check out ed. building displays & gift shop then head to beach to watch sea vessels or kite flyers!
Very historically great and informative, best fort in NC a must see with family and friends
The beach at the state park is great. Huge and wide open. The parking area has clean changing rooms, bathrooms and outdoor showers . Great if you have kids.
Its just about the only beach left on the Crystal Coast where you can park free. They have lifeguards, concessions, bathrooms with shower and changing area. It's the best deal for day tripping.
It was refreshing to go at a time when it wasn't crowded . I enjoyed seeing and reading about the different cannons. The 30 pounder FTW
Take the guided tour ! I've been here several times and this was the first time I did the free tour and it was very interesting!!
Ft Macon, Atlantic Beach The New Education Building is wonderful! Be sure to plan to spend time there. Great displays, video, gift shop .
would recommend to visit if you are close enough.... we enjoyed our day there... lots to see
Great historic fort , a must see if in the area and its free. The NC Park division did a great job showcasing the history of this fort . Way better than Fort Sumter
Bring your Christmas trees to help restore the dunes. The drop off spot is marked at the far end of the parking lot . (Until January 31st.)
Historical museum . Clean place and nice customer service.
If your looking just for beach access your better off paying for it near the Sheraton esp on the big weekends like July 4th. The fort is great to see and its free.
Cool site detailing the history of the fort . And it's free, best of all.
Wow is all I can say. I have been many forts all over and this by far was the best restoration I have seen
They have a great video presentation that I would highly recommend watching before checking out the fort .
Free and historical...can't get any better!!
Interesting place. Free to visit. Aside from the Fort , there are a few miles of shore to hike .
Very informative and full of history
Great place to check out!
Lot of upgrades and audio visual stuff added since i was here in march
The fort is a great place for photos. Don't forget your camera !
Go during the week instead of the weekend, if possible. Parking is PACKED otherwise... thanks Atlantic Beach paid parking . :/
Great for learning history!!!
Park in the lot to the left and enter the beach from that side. Access ramp is closed coming down from the boardwalk. Less people over there too.
Thanks to Atlantic Beach's new paid parking , the free lots here are always packed!
Enjoy the history! Then, enjoy the beach/fishing!
Make sure you check out the fort - it's better than you'd think...and it's free!
