You may think you traveled to Hawaii for the beach and palm trees , but you’re really there for the doughnuts . In particular, the malasadas , Portuguese-style fried dough coated with cinnamon . Read more
Eat here & you'll never eat a pastry anywhere else. Dunkin or Krispy cant hold a candle to this place. The malasadas (Portuguese fried dough ) were so warm, sweet & doughy! Melts in your mouth! A++++!!
Get a malasada puff (filled version) and eat it right away when the dough is still piping hot and the custard filling is still cool inside ????
Great service! The malasadas were all good. We got original, cinnamon sugar , and li hing . The malasada puffs were ok but I prefer it without the filling.
The Malasadas are amazing! Hot and made to order - be sure to try the original (non filled) and a filled version. At least two are a must ;) If a wait, the line moves quickly so don’t be deterred!
The malasadas (Portuguese fried dough ) were so warm, sweet & doughy. Best spot on the island , as they come warmed and the dough is so moist and fluffy. Never eat at room temperature.
Got 2 original, 2 cinnamon , a custard filled and a coconut filled along with a cocoa cream puff and a hotdog pao doce! Sugar and food overload! Go after a sunrise hike at Diamond Head!
This bakery was recommended by a friend and I was so glad that we went there. They are known for their malsalda (probably spelled wrong). Anyway, tried several and all were excellent!
The donut comes warmed and the dough is so moist and fluffy. Tip: when you order, take a bite right away! Texture isn't as phenomenal when at room temperature. (but still good!)
Leonards bakery is famous for their malasada 's. It's Portuguese style donuts , there come plain or with different custards inside like guava , macadamia nut , chocolate , pineapple and many other choices
Avoid the chocolate-filled malasadas ; in their place, check out haupia , custard , and lilkoi (or any other flavor of the month).
This place serves the best breakfast delights! Their menu itself is great! I had a caramelized sugar sweet croissant with a very pleasant texture, and got our favorite breakfast sandwiches !
I probably would’ve preferred the original malasada , but the malasada puffs (i.e. cream-filled) were pretty good. The Pao Doce Pups were also tasty.
Try all the masalada flavors! The line may be long, but it moves pretty fast. The masaladas are made to order, so take a bit of time!
The cinnamon sugar malasadas were delicious. They were light and airy without filling. We also tried custard-filled flavors vanilla and coconut . The cinnamon without filling won hands down for us.
eat them hot! so fluffy & delicious. Original sugar was better than the cinnamon . They also have dole pineapple soft serve , which was a nice treat instead of going to the dole plantation for it.
A local staple, you'll want to grab a box (or two) of the malasadas . The place is small and the lines can get long. There's also a mobile location in Waikele if you're shopping at the outlets.
The malasadas are phenomenal. I dream of coming back. Still don’t know which filling I love the most.
Hands-down the best malasadas in town . They come in various flavors and optional filling... but the best has got to be the original unfilled.
Best Malasadas I've ever had. Warm, fresh and piped with cream, rolled in sugar or both. Not to be missed if visiting Ohau.
Malasadas are not to be missed. Get the original and the puffs.
Obviously the Malasada !! I got cinnamon sugar but I’m sure they are all bomb.
Always take at least 1 fla or of the month, 1 of your choice and 1 long john (althought their chocolate eclairs are also quite good), then you will have 3 pieces of awesome pastries .
Ok.. I know I've written a review before giving its praises but I hv officially tried several malasadas on Oahu and I hv to say. Still hands down the very best..total recommendation.????????????????
The most delicious and sweetest “Masaladas” in Honolulu! Try the one filled with macadamia cream!
Hot cinnamon sugar malasadas=yummtastic!! The line was long but moved super fast, definitely a stop here for those wanting an authentic local treat!
Try the famed malasadas—a Portuguese deep-fried confection , like a jelly donut . Served warm and covered in sugar, they tend to be filled with a mango cream this time of year. Read more
The best malasadas in town ! It gets crowded but it’s worth it. Highly recommend
The original and Li Hing are the way to go! ???? Recommend starting out with the unstuffed!
Guava filled malasada puffs are so good! Definitely a must try. Try ordering all the flavors so you can try all the unique tastes
The pecan mini tarts are great for breakfast and the brownies are good anytime. They also serve regular lunch and dinner , really glad I found them!
Get li hing , get custard-filled, get whatever else you like (it's all delicious)—just get an original malasada first to experience its pure perfection.
Always baked fresh to order! We got the original, mac nut , haupia and guava . Original and mac nut were our faves!
The parking can be a challenge but don't let it scare you away. I make it a point to stop here on my annual visits. So worth it to come here.
$30 for 24 piece dobash cake ! Pretty decoration and so light and ono! We added mini chocolate chips on top cuz we crazy!! [ Happy Birthday to my budz, Toby!!! ]
Gotta eat it fresh. Get original with filling of your choice
The malasadas were a real treat! Try one with cinnamon sugar .
Parking can be tricky, but you'll probably find a spot if you circle the block a bit. Don't be intimidated by any crowds, the lines go very quick!
We tried all 8 flavors of the malasadas . Our favorite is the Li-hing sugar. U should try it!
If you love donuts on the mainland, you’ll love malasadas ! I liked the coconut filling one since it was very light.
The filled malasadas are fabulous, we got the macadamia nut filled, the flavor of the month which was Guava . All were delicious.
A must on the list of things to do for first time visitors or regulars, the best ‘donut ’ in this world, it is malasades – a Portuguese sweet dough fried. -Heather Hurlbert, Top Chef Just Desserts
Li Hing flavor (sweet / salty dried plum ) + perfect chewy malasada texture. I don’t even like doughnuts and these are delicious.
Better to call in the order but make sure you go a little bit early since the lines can hold you up and the malasadas sit
Malasadas must be eaten while they are hot! The occasional specialty fillings are a nice twist too, mmm ono!
Order all the malasada types. You won't regret it.
You're obviously here for a malasada . Don't resist. Just do it. Go with a mixed variety dozen. Just do it. Yummmmm!
Leonard Rego started baking malasadas (Portuguese pastries similar to doughnuts ) at his bakery in the 1950s. His son continues the tradition, serving the rolled-sugar pastries hot from the oven.
There is nothing better than the Haupia Malasadas and the daily specials will never disappoint. But be sure to bring a friend who can stay in the car to double park , cause parking is limited.
Go with the warm original puff made to order. The filing is unnecessary but added touch of deliciousness.
