Having tried all the coffee stalls here, the best brew goes to Cambridge Coffee Stall (#01-06) that is facing the HDB shops.
A spacious , breezy and clean center in a suburban setting with lots of great food. Enjoyed the sliced fish soup , prawn mee and carrot cake . Will be coming back to sample more.
Go for Cambridge Road HK Roast. The lady was very friendly , and the roast pork and char siew were great, topped with a good soup and veg all for $3. Super value for money .
Mushroom vegetable noodles . Soon Huat Wanton Noodle #01-04 will gladly sell you a vegetarian plate of just mushrooms and vege , for the same price of their other dishes, $3.50
Sample Prof Tommy Koh's faves fr this food centre: fish head soup noodle #01-46, Hokkien mee #01-40, and fried carrot cake #01-20. Source: The Sunday Times
My 1st time here and I am wowed by the variety of excellent food options. Love the prawn noodles (no MSG taste), hong kong chee cheong fun and carrot cake .
HerWorldPlus recommends: fish soup noodles fr Ng Seng Heng #46, Pin Wei Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun #25, Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodles #15, hor fun fr Tong Siew Fried Rice #23
Fried carrot cake : There r 2 white carrot cake stalls but clearly 1 winner: d 1 run by an old but spritely man (Good Spice #01-20) He's been dishg it out 4 @ least 20 yrs! Join d q ;-)
Many good options for local Singaporean eats. Opens early so good for breakfast hours.
Chicken rice . Uncle Louis Famous Chicken Rice #01-05 is a welcome addition to the food scene at this neighborhood . It has all the basics right: fragrant rice , succulent meats. This set $3.50
Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun is really The best in town , even better than what I had in HK. It's freshly made and so soft.
"Pek Kio" means white bridge in Hokkien. There were 2 such bridges spanning over Kampong Java Canal . U can still find these bridges opposite KK Hospital . Source: Info panel at the market
Did u know? Pek Kio was once a 1,000 acre sugarcane plantation (1 acre = 16 tennis courts !), owned by Joseph Balestier, America's 1st consul to Singapore. Source: Info panel at market
It's super hard to find anything (that's tasty) for dinner because all the stalls close very early.
Good Spice Carrot Cake , worth the queue... $1.50 - $4.00, generous amt if eggs ... :)
Fried butterfly dough & peanut ball. Bought from Delisnacks #01-24 at 7:30am on a Sunday. Both items were cold. For 90-cents each, I’d rather get the peanut pancake (60-cents) nearby for freshness
There's a SingPost postbox near the food centre. @ corner facing the pedestrian crossing. Mon-Thu 5pm collection. Fri 6pm. No mail collection on weekends
Vegetarian options : vegetarian beehoon , you tiao (fried fritters ), chee cheong fun (rice rolls ), pancake , Indonesian kueh, yong tau foo , fruits , friedcarrot cake , beancurd , chwee kueh, prata , yam cake
Rice porridge . Comfort food offered by Ou Yuan #01-07. Your order freshly cooked each time. Usual protein options of pork , chicken , fish , egg , century egg
This is only a daytime (morning, lunch and afternoon) market . You won't find much here in the evenings.
A serene neighbourhood food centre just outside city centre. Kind of a destination as it is situated near but not along major roads . Goreng Pisang is very good here. LE Bakery nearby also popular.
Great hawker centre with cheap prices and amazing selection of good tasty food. Recommend Wah Kee prawn noodles , Heng Leong carrot cake , braised duck , You tiao and soya bean curd .
Dinner options limited. On a typical day, 10 stalls r open: 5 drinks stalls, & 5 food stalls (Indian, fried kuay teow/oysters, fried rice/hor fun, fish bee hoon , zi char) :-(
Nasi lemak ayam cajun ($5) by stall with same name #01-09. Offered for lunch (or when meat is ready). Differentiated by spiced grilled meat
Sliced fish soup . A popular stall, Delicacy Fish Soup #01-03 prepares fresh bowls of seafood soup . $5 for this bowl of plain sliced fish
Traditional Carrot Cake , visit Good Spice Carrot Cake . Cheap , Tasty & best of all, Generous eggs serving! A $3/- order comes w/4 eggs ! Note: Long queue as it's a one old man team doing cook to order.
Prawn noodles : 2 stalls 2 choose. Taukehs eat @ Wah Kee #01-15. Soup is thick & has a kick. The other #01-41 is run by young couple & comes w kangkong vege . U can ask 4 boiled pigskin, chilli powder
Kedongdong fruit juice . Savour this rare-in-S'pore drink @ #01-27. Also known as umbra (or ampulla in Penang) or balonglong, dis ice-cold, sour drink is gr8 on hot days!
Kopi (local coffee ): Remember d Soup Nazi in Seinfeld? Look 4 Kopi Nazi @ this mkt. New Fashion #01-39. His premium blended java brew is thick & generous. Premium, but still affordable prices too ;-)
Chunky chai tow kway (fried carrot cake ). Heng Leong #01-13 serves this style but their white version tends to be bland
Roasted meat : Wonder wat d long q @ Xin Heng Kee Chicken & Duck Rice stall #01-14 is all abt? Fresh, succulent & value 4 money. Plus young couple owners v cheery lot :-)
Mi chiam kueh (Chinese pancake ): Die die must q up & buy some @ Yean Heng Pancake #01-32. Go 4 their fresh grounded peanut filling
Very spacious hawker centre. Relaxed atmosphere . Be there early for black carrot cake .
Wantan mee : There are 2 wantan noodles stalls. 1 serves with black soy sauce , ala Malaysian style (#01-44); the other's (#01-04) mee kia is springier
Duck porridge : Did u know d stall selling kway chap #01-38 also sells very comforting $2 duck porridge ? Delicious & just d right portion if u dun really hv a big appetite
Spacious & lofty after the upgrading. Popular with parents after they drop off kids in nearby schools
This stall facing the row of shops has a nice texture for their fish balls , more homemade style . Noodles were ok but their chiili, soya sauce & vinegar lacked the 'punch' ????
Wantan mee . New contender Zhong Ji Delicacy #01-35 is drawing a constant curious queue. Sauce is thick & sweet, not my preferred style. Wantans could be more refined
GOOD SPICE CARROT CAKE is a must try!
Old-school hawker with reasonable prices and good quality food.
Hainanese curry rice . Did not enjoy my plate from Yuan Kee #01-43. Rice was clumpy. Fried foldover egg was butchered . Pork chop was hard to chew
I've found it! Teck Huat Coffee Loti has been relocated to BLK 341,Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, #01-03. Famous for its Kaya bread and aromatic coffee , who once was at Pek Kio Market & Food Centre!
Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles . I felt the version from 郑兴四炒 #01-02 lacked flavour & was overly watery, compared to Sheng Seng #01:40
Try the prawn noodles and chee cheong fan ! Favorite breakfast place
Kaya toast set. Three stalls offer this breakfast set , with the cheapest & creamy kaya from Wang Wang @ $2.50
Try the Char Siew or Prawn Chee Cheong Fun at #01-25
One of the few places in sg where you can find $1.50 fried carrot cake . Try the freshly made Chee Cheong fan too.
Pek kio seafood delights stall serves yummy fish soup . Their yam rice are fragrant and the chap chai is delish!
