If you are here for an event on the first floor,make sure you have some time to have a look at the portraits, including the famous Margaret Thatcher one and the exhibition about women in politics.

Resist the temptation to go to the top floors or to try and seek out the living quarters because they're out of bounds. 'The Dispatch' Box is a quick little cafe ' on the ground floor for a breather.

Write to your local MP to request a tour of parliament. Well worth it, see if you can get into one of the many pubs .

Spent my life in this building. Don't get caught out by the extremely long queues that sometimes occur.

The queue to get through security can be long so leave an extra 10 minutes to get in on time.
