Beautiful Square. They have a great variety of events throughout the year, and it is a great place to hang out for a bit. Stand in the center of the mini-ampitheatre and talk, then stop by Starbucks.
Always something going on. Always someone asking for money. Always someone looking for a signature. Always a prime location for people watching .
"Portland's Living Room" is located in the heart of downtown and hosts 300+ events throughout the year. Nearby you can find world-class shopping and tasty food carts.
Nice place for gatherings and meeting up with friends. Later in the night you do see more homeless and ghetto people roaming the area. But overall, still a good place, and near shops!
What can I say, this place is amazing, always full of energy, I always feel good when I'm here.. I come here to think through problems :)
The Portland Hotel stood on the site from 1891 to 1951. It had 326 rooms, bars , a restaurant , etc., and faced the courthouse . When it was demolished to make way for a 2-level parking lot .
Man, after a year of not going here, so much have changed when coming back. For the good, that is. Besides Starbucks, events always happen there, benches for sunny days, chess , etc.
Food trucks and street theatre . A great place to kill an hour.
If you ever get the chance, go into the closet beyond the golden doors (underneath the Starbucks). There's a gateway to Narnia in there.

Stand in the center of the in-circle to the right of Starbucks. Yell as loud as you can and ask someone behind you not in that circle if they can hear you.

The cheese steak cart on the square has the best cheese steaks in town . Worth killing a man for. Grab one, sit on the steps , and watch Portland go by.
