A great place to cross-train on some trails via a hike , climb, run, walk, mountain bike ... is at Philly's Fairmount Park, the Park covers (4,180 acres), and is the largest landscaped park in the U.S.
Its 9,200 acres make up 10 percent of Philadelphia. Rather than a single park , it's actually a collection of 63 regional and neighborhood parks . In 1876 one of the first World's Fairs was hosted here.
There is nothing like waking up before the sun on those summer mornings and running the 8 mile loop around this local “hot spot” all year round. This is the place to go to keep moving.
This place is huge. It has anything for anyone. Amazing spot! You do not feel like you're in the middle of a city .
Go to North Concourse Drive in West Fairmount Park. There you will see the Smith Memorial Arch . A monument to the Civil war, it consists of 15 sculptures by 12 artists !
Way bigger than Central Park but lesser known and much more to offer.
The Ellen Phillips Samuel Memorial & the Smith Memorial Arch are better known as “Whispering Benches .” 2 people sitting on far ends of each 50-ft bench can whisper yet hear each other clearly.
