Museum of the Moving Image

This museum is unbelievable. It's beautifully curated, interactive, and engaging. You could easily spend 3 or 4 hours here, especially if you're into film & television .

In Astoria this museum is a homage to all movies ,video game and how they came to be. The different eras and actors and important figures through out cinema . A lot of hand on exhibits . Great for kids

Here for Mad Men (or a movie )? Stay and explore the neighborhood (especially the food). I love Mamu Thai at 36th Ave. & 36th St. (they have a great food truck but this is their newer permanent spot).

Jim Henson exhibition is absolutely incredible. A must stop for all lovers of cinema . Great for families. Free on Fridays after 4pm.

Membership at the museum gets you the chance to see independent and/or international films you might have missed and classics you already love or have always meant to see--all on the big screen .

The Mad Men exhibit alone is worth the visit. The museum itself is a real gem.

Awesome place if you are into the evolution of movie and the such. They have the original Exorcist head and some Freddy Kruger stuff!

A wonderful museum on the history of moving images in a city where so many classic films were shot.From Scorsese to Star Wars,video games to kinetoscope,it provides a uniquely immersive experience

The great thing about this museum is that it not only teach you the history of cinema but also branches out into evolution of video games (it is moving image after all)

One of my fave museums . It’s kind of far away in Queens, but has really great exhibitions on movies , pop culture, technology, and interactive media.

I really enjoyed it especially their new exhibition of mad men and how they have the set and the different clothing they use. Quite impressed!! I would definitely go back when they have a new exhibit

Fantastic museum dedicated to film , video, and animation. Great for expert and casual visitors alike. Great for kids, too! Never crowded and always fascinating. Historical info plus pop culture fun.

Keep an eye out for membership deals on Groupon. Being a member is absolutely worth it for all the screenings they do alone. It's a really fun museum too, any movie geek would be in heaven here!

Great experience, Part of the Historical Kaufman studios. Cheap entrance. Interactive. Don't forget to do a flip book , and bring some coins to play in some games ;) Ask about special movie showings.

The church for movie lovers. The history of film in one location, plus one of the best screening rooms in NYC. If I could pay rent here, I would.

Come with a blank DVD-R and search around the outside of the building, you just might find a DVD slot that will burn media curated as part of Aram Bartholl's "Dead Drop" art installation. Read more

Out of museums all over NYC, this is one to be visited for something everyone can relate to. Their arcade is cool, but a lot of their machines still need fixing — some having broken buttons/joysticks.

Has so many cool pieces from all the classic movies ! My favorite part was definitely the portrait gallery

The sports video games exhibit is probably my favorite museum exhibit of all time

Such a cool museum ! You get to see music videos of every genre from weird remixes to bjork in 3D. The third floor is the best, you can try to do VoiceOvers (that's hilarious!)

One of my favorite museums in the city . Easy to see everything. Fun interactive exhibits . Nice space. Be sure to do the VoiceOver booth .

This place is pure AWESOME. Try to catch a movie in their theater. Pricey , but a cool changeup from the usual movie theater experience.

Madden NFL: 25 Years and Running looks back on the groundbreaking video game franchise Madden NFL, from the original John Madden Football (1988) on Apple II to present (Jan 9th - Feb 23rd, 2014)

Really gorgeous clean design to the building itself and plenty of fun interactive exhibits for everyone to enjoy. Great museum !

Wonderful special exhibits and community events are hosted in this NY staple. Get on their mailing list for a community calendar you won't want to miss.

The second floor of the permanent exhibit includes an interactive where you can record a video with your friends. After, you can buy a flip book of your video in the gift shop !

Great museum , it is small so don't think it is the type you will "get lost" in. The special exhibits are always great in my experience.

Make sure you save some time to play some of the video games on the arcade systems and game consoles. Brought back some great memories...

In 2011, the Museum of the Moving Image, in Astoria, completed an equally massive, size-doubling $67 million revamp that added new galleries , theaters, and a courtyard .

Adored the Jim Henson exhibition and the video games exhibit . The regular movie screenings are also excellent.

Anyone who has ever wondered how they made a movie or likes the movie making process will love this museum . Cool interactive exhibits and neat displays of both modern and historic films .

Fun fact: it was the need for plentiful, reliable sunlight that led the American film industry to move to LA from the east coast.

Really nice gallery of news TV and everything in between .. computer games on the top floor.
