General Logan was a civil war hero and a late-coming abolitionist. Residents of the Logan Circle neighborhood are justifiably proud of John Logan, a former Logan Circle resident.

The base of Logan’s statue was designed by Richard Morris Hunt, who also designed the base of the Statue of Liberty.
