Built in an old power station , the mammoth, 443,000-square-foot museum played host to the 2012 Shanghai Biennale. It’s the first public museum on the mainland to showcase contemporary Chinese art .
As PSA gaining more popularity, weekend visit could be congested around 1-4 pm (especially during Biennale exhibition where people loving taking shots). Free admission on Tuesday
It stands by itself, away from the bustle of the city , but is well worth a visit. I came mid week and had the place to myself.
A must-visit for art and architecture lovers! Check their website for information on what exhibitions are on. Also if you have time, go for a walk by the river . ;)
A really big spacious exhibition hall, pretty close to the subway and nearby other old Shanghai expo centers. Spend a few hours looking around and enjoy the view of the river .
Big, spacious and comfort museum . Lots of showrooms are closed for press event on the day I went, sure I'll come again to see them all. You can even go onto the platform to see the view of the city .

Check the current exhibits before you go. When I went there was only a small exhibit in an otherwise giant and creepily empty space
The biggest art museum by the river - reminds of Southbank Centre. The building is left there since 2010 Shanghai Expo as City Pavillion. Cafe on top floor now.

By far my favourite gallery/museum in SH! Regardless of the exhibitions , totally worth the visit...love this space!
Reminds you of Tate Modern in London, but it is empty inside except one paid for exhibition .
Great exhibits plus options to create work yourself!
Rooftop cafeteria not bad. You can enjoy pasta ,pizza , burger and also wine and beer .
The public art museum gone lo-fi. Definitely check that they have 3-4 exhibitions running when you go to make it worth your while.
The ticketing system is indeed ridiculous, but try your luck: just drop by and you might be able to get in without a ticket. Don't forget to use your charm on the ticketing agent... ;-)
If taxis are hard to come by, there is a bus depot about 10 minutes walk away. You can get a bus (868) along the bund for 2¥.
there's a restaurant at the 7th floor with a birdsview to the huangpu river
The building is cool - the exhibits are a bit spotty though. Some good, some not so good.
Spacious and great exhibitions.A bit far from the metro station . Best to get your tickets online in advance.
Big and remind me of London a bit:)
Cai Guo Qiang art exhibition . amazing. "Head On" 99 life-sized replicas of wolves and glass wall
Perfect contemporary art venue. Must have to all modern art lovers
When leaving this place, it can be hard to find a taxi ... The subway is about a 15 min walk to South XiZang Station (line 4 or 8)
Here for 蔡国强 art exhibition . Love the art pieces. An interesting place for an art gallery .
Summer opening hour is 11:00 - 19:00 so don't go there too early during July/August !

good arts and artists
Fuckers wouldn't let us in at 4:04 on the last day of the Warhol exhibit so make sure to take their 4:00 final entry rule seriously.
Nuce view from the top!
It's sometimes difficult to enjoy the art when people are hammering away upstairs.
Must visit the biennale.
Sometimes they require reservation via online to get in. Their eng web doesn't have that info.
Don't need a reservation any more, just show up!
