Makena State Park is a state or provincial park Pu‘unēnē located in United States.
Wailea Alanui Road Pu‘unēnē , HI 96753 United States
Home of Big Beach . Park has ample parking , lifeguards , porta-potties, and no showers . Be careful going in the water though. There is often a large shore break that occurs here. Perfect for skimboards.
Many visitors and locals consider Makena their personal favorite beach , and for good reason. Golden sands extending nearly a mile long make Makena the perfect location for a sunset stroll. Read more
This is my favorite beach on Maui. It's one of the last big beaches in South Maui that does not have a hotel on it. This beach is better known as 'Big Makena Beach ' or simply 'Big Beach '.
The waters here are amazingly blue/green! Went on a nice summer day and it literally looked like a beach from a calender. Get sunscreen and swim wear and enjoy the waters here.
Better snorkeling than Molokini ! Can swim for a mile in every direction and discover the hidden gems of Maui. I found a 5ft turtle on my first visit. But it's a $10k fine to touch them!
Amazing sunsets ! And beautiful long walks. A zillion times better than the hyped wailea beach ! Must see!
Watch out for the killer shore break . Amazing beach otherwise, lots of great people watching .
Beautiful stretch of beach that is less crowded than the touristy beaches by the resorts .
Once again this is a good spot only in we have a Southerly (Kona Wind). This is a surf beach so for those who love to jump, this is a great spot.
No fresh showers nor full bathrooms (port-a-potty) so plan accordingly. The beach makes it worth it. Big beach is excellent!
Pay attention to signage. Can have strong undercurrents. Has lifeguard on duty! Beautiful stretch of beach !
Great place to chill and watch the sunset .
it's name definitely fits...this beach is big! not a great place for snorkeling in the middle of the beach (not sure about the sides), but definitely fun for waves.
Great scenery and surfing , but not good for swimming ... The water was pretty rough
Good place to catch waves for bodysurfing or boogie boarding . Just make sure not to faceplant close to shore... little too gravelly. ;-)
Best beach so far!!
Beautiful ????
Be careful when swimming here if you're not experienced with the ocean. The shore break can be deceptively safe looking. Read more
Make sure to wear your sunscreen today- looks like a scorcher
Look out at Molokini from the Big Beach shoreline
Cool walking around here.
Красивый пляж для прогулок, но купаться тут опасно.
What a hidden treasure! Very few people with beautiful views! A great beach to relax and enjoy! - Soxinly
not a bad climb during the day! when doing the hike, there's a great view of big beach. nice that it's secluded and a nude beach! - Keri Robinson
A little overgrown but the giant foo dogs and Sun Yat Sen statues are worth stopping to see. - Tristan Schmid
Great paved sidewalk/path. Too crowded for jogging. Great for a stroll and whale watching. - Adam S
Very nice upscale mall! Outdoor shopping, live music during sunset to night and decent variety. - Beni
The macadamia crusted mahi mahi was delicious. And try the grilled cornbread. - Rob Weidmann
Beautiful, black sand with black/brown cliffs overlooking the south side. Rocky, with a strong tide, so not swimmable - but worth seeing. - Luke Mayes
