It is a very small museum with great pieces. The 4th floor is the golden ticket here. Was able to get discount on tickets through groupon. Gift shop is full of stuff you'd want to take home!
Have someone give you a guided tour - it is a fantastic way to get to know the museum . And, in case you are wondering, Patterson Pope supplied the movable shelving and art rack in the storage room.
At the gift shop , we've found an ink pen disguised as a tube of paint. Folks may also browse books on art , prints of museum works, T-shirts of the "Firebird " and other cool stuff. Read more
The architecture is cool but it is a very small museum , you can't even compare to Mint . Still, it is nice to walk around and see the art .
Although it isn't crammed with cocktail tables, the Bechtler lobby does sport a bar , some club seating and surprisingly fine acoustics . Read more

This new exhibition focuses on letters, prints and found objects related to renowned kinetic artist Jean Tinguely’s Cascade sculpture in uptown Charlotte’s Carillon building. Very interesting exhibit . Read more
The museum was at the top of my list when visiting Charlotte. Spent about an hour there. Great place.
The special exhibitions are a nice way of seeing the 'hidden' parts of the museum 's extensive collection.
Come hear some great jazz on the first friday of each month. Get there early or buy your tickets online the day before or you might miss out.

The Alexander Calder and Andy Warhol works are AMAZING!!! The museum even has some Picasso pieces!

When on the 4th floor , ask the security person to turn on the motorized Tinguely pieces. Pretty cool, especially the Santana piece.

If you can get for free or just feel like donating to the arts , check it out. Otherwise, it's not worth the admission.
The museum was designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta who also designed the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art .
The sculpture out front is fascinating.
You feel like you're not in Charlotte...the gift shop is the ultimate and the food in the cafe is from Porcupine. YUM
