The Traditional Breakfast brought me back to Japan. Try it if you've spent time living in Japan or want to embrace traditional food , it's not easy to find! Yaki-salmon, unagi-maki, kinpira, and NATTO !
Enjoyable neighborhood Japanese spot. I liked the pork katsu curry (pictured) and the gyoza , but the chirashi and nabeyaki udon also looked good!
Great breakfast/brunch deal with a ton of food. Pretty authentic and finally, a place that serves some proper natto in south Brooklyn.
I'm not going to lie, this was one of the best meals I've ever had. Try a bunch of appetizers and special rolls and don't forget dessert !
Solid neighborhood sushi spot. Rolls are good, nigiri is good, and you can always get a table.
The sides, like agedashi tofu and kimpira gobo, are a bit too sweet. The fish , aged very well , make up for it.
Your friendly neighborhood sushi restaurant with a chill vibe. The seared tuna belly roll with avocado is a great combination of flavors.
The nine piece omakase was excellent as was the sake ! I’ll be going back.
This is possibly the best Japanese sushi restaurant in Brooklyn. Also, if you're lucky, your waiter might be McGuyver (or Keifer Southerland from Lost Boys).
Udon with shrimp and vegetable tempera was excellent! The udon noodles were especially good.
Lots of sake options and melt in your mouth sushi , which is a roll in the menu.
They recently have made parts of their menu gluten-free-friendly and now they also carry gluten-free soy sauce !
Came in for take-out maki lunch special . Haven't eaten yet, but they're playing Aphex Twin, which at least indicates they have good taste in music !
Amazing, super fresh, sushi , the beer is great and the service is awesome too! Love it!
The staff is pleasant, the food presentation is awesome, and it tastes great. The prices are also great, I will come here again.
What a GEM! The lunch special is the best bet. If you are feeling adventurous try the fermented tofu (its a little nutty) but if not, the old standards for sushi are excellent, fresh and well priced.
A well rounded sushi menu that's budget friendly , but doesn't compromise on freshness. Sit outside whenever weather allows
Gen salad is a good shareable side. Salmon entree was the best looking dish at my table
Staff Pick! Stephanie (Education): Gen has high-quality, fresh sushi at good prices. The patio out back is a lovely spot for dining in the spring and summer. Enjoy the green or red bean ice cream .
great tasting sushi from the chef with japanese dreads. get a bottle of wine and chow down.
Great service and delicious miso soup for chilly fall nights, although the portions are a tad too small.
Make a home at the sushi bar . The chefs are super kind, will remember you and hook you up when you come back....
The salmon ochazuke is amazing.
Strangely—and unfortunately—the appetizers were much tastier than any of the sushi we tried.
Great sake and beer selection , and omakase is a good deal
Very good Sushi....If you like spicy try the Spicy citrus salmon Shashimi
Excellent Japanese, a lovely place to eat at the bar .
Great sake selection , and delicious sushi
Lots of fun inventive takes on sushi and maki
defy the tempura convention . eat sushi . and age dashi tofu
Great mixture of sushi/roll and Japanese home cooking plates.
Sashimi deluxe is always fresh, spicy tuna roll has the mayo on top.
This is really the best sushi in all of Brooklyn. It's served the way it should and always go for the Chef special .
Tues-Thurs special: draft beer or house sake $3. Get two of each.
Great sake , really great sushi
Nabeyaki udon or the grilled white tuna . Sooo good.
Food is great here!
chief recommendation is a lot and Great!
Super friendly staff . Really fresh sushi .
The prices are ok but you can get real Japanese foods .
Authentic and not touristy
Try the lunch box at brunch . Its always delightful.
My first taste of uni (urchin ) was here. Loved it.
Early bird special Tu-Thu from 5:30-7:30p. Delicious!!
Amazing place and food!
Short ribs & soba noodles
The sushi for two plate is tasty. Make sure you go during the week for off-the-menu specials.
Such good sashimi !

The rolls are huuuuge! One is big enough for lunch or a light dinner. The Farmer's Bowl is also amazing! - Lauren Downing
They're always busy but the service is great. You may have to wait for a table but it's worth it. - Rachel Sica
Really can't go wrong with anything, but the marshmallow/rice crispy ice cream is out of this world. - Meg Farmer
Great frozen cocktails! Gets crowded after 5, so it might be hard to find a seat. - Datrianna Meeks
Everything everyone else said AND fantastic, unpretentious service. Amazing cafe. - Ann Montgomery
