Cute independent theater. Screens are not as big, but the charm (exposed brick walls and unique details) make up for it!
Love this charming little old fashioned theater. Feels like a real neighborhood place - way more so than the one over on 3rd or in union square!
$7 Tuesdays for students (or for people that were smart enough to hang on to their student IDs). Also-- see a movie in theater #1. It's one of the most beautiful movie theaters you'll sit in.
Originally opened in 1926, the space has in its long history housed everything from vaudeville to off-Broadway. Their gorgeous main theater will often show whatever the biggest seller of the week is. Read more
All shows before noon are $8. Also $8 on Tuesdays for students, all day. Limited selection of films but usually have a few good ones out. I love going on weekend mornings.
Hyper small theaters with one, unexpectedly large one upstairs. Great indie selections. Sat next to Maggie Gylenhaal once.
One of my favorite film theaters in NYC, it has the friendliest staff and always has a mix of foreign/independent with box office draws. Please support this theater!
Great little theatre. Usually not terribly crowded , and tends to show indie movies and documentaries as well as mainstream fare. Plus, the largest screen is old fashioned and lovely.
The restored Jaffe theater was a treat to see 2001: A Space Odyssey in. It literally felt like 1968 in there, including the seats, and decor.
Make sure to see a movie in Cinema 1 if possible. The most beautiful cinema you will ever see.
The most old fashioned cinema that I've ever tried in MYC. Sometimes u can find some small-production films here that u won't see in big cinemas .
Protip: if you're seeing a movie in theater 1, there are two staircases up to the theater. You can use either one, even at Tribeca Film Festival ????️
Not the most modern or comfortable theater, but they do have an amazing roster of movies that are not part of the mainstream. And it’s very clean and the prices are slightly cheaper.
The theaters upstairs are stunning, though in need of new seats. Arrive early enough to find comfortable ones and to make sure your view is not obstructed by the railing.
Come for fantastic Indie films . This building was built in 1925-26 and is listed in the National Register Of Historic Places.
Good theater for independent and foreign films . Managed to catch The Last: Naruto The Movie here.
massive old school style theatre upstairs. It's like seeing a movie in an opera house
The right spot to indulge in 1920s glamour and amazing architecture designed by Louis Jaffe and inspired to Moorish Revival style.
Great indie and art house theater.
If the movie 's not in theater one, turn away. This place is one nice screen and 10 screens slightly larger than a big screen TV. Can't wait for this place to be torn down.
Great films , from there mainstream to indie films . Comfortable seats .
incredibly uncomfortable theater with airplane-like leg room. if comfort strongly affects your viewing experience, see your movie elsewhere.
Comfortable seats , but I think the kiosks were originally programmed on an Apple IIe.
Classic village spot for mainstream and the occasional art house film .
Watch a movie in theatre 1. It's incredibly beautiful and unlike any theatre I've seen before
Beautiful theater for film fest screenings and the rare 70mm print screening.
Small but perfect cinema house. Keep an eye out for anime showcases.
like the ziegfeld, a converted theatre into a movie theatre. catch a film in the main theatre for the cool opera seating.
Set in an old theater. Has a nice charm about it though the seats are not very comfortable
Very nice movie theater . Gives me an old school movie theater vibe
Really nice theater. Students cost $10 on Tuesdays, bring your ID!
The main auditorium is a converted legitimate house, and is one of the few places in New York to feel like an old-time cinema . See whatever you can here, because every film feels like an event .
Don't sit by the railing on the first row. May seem like a good idea but the bar obstructs your view ! ????
Old school theater with modern comfortable seats
Seen Hateful Eight on 70mm it was unique experience. Not crowded at all and very laid back .
I like this older movie venue although some of the smaller theaters have a seedy feel and I feel like a rat might run over my feet. Doesn't stop me they show good stuff.
Looks a little shady on the outside but fabulous on the inside. It's very quiet , no obnoxiousness!
A great place for film . Always showing good stuff.
Great place to see an indie or a limited release, but skip the blockbusters here.
Love that student discount wish I found out about this place sooner
Theater 5 is a freezer. Literally. Everybody talked about it before during and AFTER the movie even in the bathroom stalls!
Cute small theater. Very cozy , limited food selection though.
Great place to watch some anime movies and geek out with others.
Great popcorn ! Theater 1 is beautiful!
#BabyBoomers 55+ can see #films here for $8 on Thursdays. #economy
Excellent customer service. I lost my tiny little set of keys. And they found it. ???? Yay.
Be sure to check out auditorium 1 for a wonderful surprise
Students come on Tuesdays and get $7 tickets and free popcorn !!!!!
Come on a Tuesday and pay $7 as a student- plus free popcorn :)
This locale was formerly a playhouse. Make sure your movie is in the main theater which is massive and ornate with stadium seating.
Great selection of smaller films. Perfect location. Usually not crowded. - Madm Fia
This theater screens some of the best in independent cinema. It also screens great anime from time to time, both new and classic. It's a great place to catch great films. - Chris Raghoobar
The environment is very nice and the design is very distinctive. There's a lot of great movies. I love it here. - Dk Jing
Pierogies are amazing, great place to go after drinking in the village for a snack. Good for dinner too - Jonah Eaton
