Love the movies , the space, and the people here. Theaters might be small and you can hear the subway, but just sit close to the screen and enjoy the charm of it all. Try an almond raspberry bar too.
I could not think of a more romantic location to watch this incredibly violent sexual film .
The full experience of going to see an indie movie in a New York theater. The Cafe area is a lovely space, and gives it a classy vibe you don't get anywhere else. Great experience overall
A great clean indie theater , so you won't get the talkative jerk person here that often. Only down side : Popcorn is more expensive and smaller, and still use fake butter.
One of a few theaters in the city that have a comfortable waiting area. Plus a cafè that is stocked with healthier snacks . (Don't worry they have classic cinema snacks as well !)
One of the oldest art house theaters to still be open today. Check out their selection of foreign and independent films . Support an important downtown institution.
Fun theater that shows a lot of indie films . Seating is a little weird and not comfortable , but the interesting movie selection more than makes up for it
THE place to go to watch a new Indie movie . The food selection is unlike anything you'll usually see at a movie theater , but we still can't help but get their amazing popcorn .
Delightful, non-AMC movie theater . You’ll feel the subway rumble beneath you, which feels correct. Also, the cafe area is spacious , and the menu includes solid pre-post viewing options.
Shows interesting movies in an unpretentious atmosphere , and you can get iced coffee as a refreshment (!), but bring a sweater... It's FREEZING.
My 2nd favorite movie theater in New York, right after Nitehawk. Great for dates! The movie snacks are downstairs but they also have some food upstairs by the entrance.
There are ticket kiosks inside the front door to the right if you're in a hurry. But I like to wait on line at the box office here for the full movie-going experience.
Always great film selection and well maintained theaters. Cafe selects in the concession stand as you enter but regular movie fare (popcorn , soda , candy ) are downstairs.
One of the oldest film centers in NYC. The place has been renovated. Special screenings with guest stars are held there sometimes. The theaters are cosy. The bar is awesome.
Great selection of movies . Buy tickets online through Fandango if you have limited time, save tickets to your wallet and use the QR code to get in the cinema .
If you're petite like me, this theatre is not good. Pretty certain the seats become shallower the further back you go which means every seat in front of you will have someone blocking your view
Some of the seats have springs poking out! Don't take off your coat / settle in too comfy until you've found a good spot for your behind. Once you have, enjoy the show.
They have the best popcorn out of all of the theaters I've gone to. On top of that they have free refills for their soda pop! The lounge is also a nice place to wait for movies to play.
Good films , but the Film Forum is a better venue for serious film buffs. Here you deal with the rumbling subway in some theaters as well as a less respectful crowd in general.
An arthouse that shows a little more mainstream films . Theater is lovely and the food is fantastic. But, I could hear the train underground every few minutes during the movie . Beware of that!
Great atmosphere and a truly unique selection of indie and International films , but beware - the auditoriums are almost flat, with anyone at or above your height completely blocking the view
Despite it's higher prices and smaller theaters, this is an epic place to watch independent movies you can't find in many other venues in NYC.
This film center's indie charm and intimate screening rooms are the biggest draw but no need to just come here just for the movies ! Free wi-fi and their full menu cafe with espresso bar in the main lo
An iconic, clean , and spacious independent movie theater . Compared to Film Forum, their movies are more accessible.
A lot of great, indie movies I've watched in this theater. Starting from Birdman until the salesman.
Whatever little "extras" you need to make your film going experience perfect, can likely be found at Angelika. Snacks , drinks, coffee , beer candy ...you name it.
i like that you can hang out at a cafe until you're movie is ready for seating. they always have good film selection that changes pretty frequently (unlike the sunshine). the poor audio quality and th
Great selection of films played here and along with standard movie theater food there is a really great cafe .
When you're looking for something that's not in the regular movie , go here. The rooms are small - so it may get really crowded but always a great crowd who is respectful.
One of my favourite cinema , lots of indie and foreign films . You never go wrong with a film here!!
Best selection of indies in the city . Nice, but expensive , cafe/in the lobby. Subway rumble can be a bit distracting at times.
These guys play all the indie shit you can't find anywhere else in NYC but theater-wise it's sometimes hard to see past the person in front of you.
Watch an indie film with an actually really good latté . This place is so lovely.
No stadium seating that I've seen, but the films are the strange, rare, and eclectic . Indie and international movie fans, this is a must-go.
Just what you would expect. In a good way. See indie films and wait in the cafe before showtime.
Love this little theater- they have good concessions and show mostly indie films .
A classic art house cinema with a great film selection and a full service cafe .
They come out with movies before they are widely released and many times they'll have a q&a with the director or stars.
An indie house staple of Manhattan. It's infamous lobby provides a great waiting room to discuss all things film .
Expensive, like every movie theatre... great selection of indie and some mainstream films !!!
My fave cinema in the city with fantastic indie selection
Theres food here! but buy your ticketa ahead of time. I didnt make it to mine ????
So cool to feel the subway rumbling under your feet. Not kidding. Authentic NYC movie going experience.
They always have great movies . Kind of a landmark film place in a cool area of New York. Even a nice café area for before your movie .
Spacious theater with indie films . They sell People’s Pops at concession .
Subway traffic can be heard through nearly every theater. Try not to let it take you out of the moment.
The historic movie theater shows documentaries , blockbusters, and classics while hosting discussions with famed filmmakers.
Grab a quick, healthy bite at Aroma across the street before your movie .
They were showing Carol. It ruled. There's a topping button.
Great selection of smaller films . Perfect location. Usually not crowded .
Not the most modern or comfortable theater, but they do have an amazing roster of movies that are not part of the mainstream. And it’s very clean and the prices are slightly cheaper. - The Corcoran Group
This theater screens some of the best in independent cinema. It also screens great anime from time to time, both new and classic. It's a great place to catch great films. - Chris Raghoobar
The environment is very nice and the design is very distinctive. There's a lot of great movies. I love it here. - Dk Jing
Beautiful, European style park. Occasional live music and outdoor chess makes it a hit. - Gajtana Simonovska
Amazing burgers (i loved the bison burger) and for cheap. Great place! - Fx Gue
All the premade dishes for quick lunch or dinner! Sinful mac and cheese, tamales, Sanoma chicken salad, fresh fruits, etc. Green beans are a bit greasy lol - Davor Bennett
