Citarella Gourmet Market - West Village

After suffering as a customer at Gristedes for a decade, I finally discovered Citarella. Two things set it apart . The employees are visibly happier. The fish is fresh and tastes delicious!

Tucked away down in the village , this location has a great selection of low-priced soups , salads and prepared foods under $8. Great for grab and go or a post-workout meal.

One of the finest deli meat counters around. Get yourself some San Daniele prosciutto and maple cured turkey .

One of the best stops for gourmet prepared foods . Cheese department covers all of the bases. Seafood is one of the best in the city .

Warning: You may not want to shop anywhere else after a couple of visits to this well-stocked, perfect selection of produce and prepared foods . Do not miss the soups .

Frugal gold: the Tuna here is better than the Tuna in most of the sushi places nearby. A small tuna steak is about $8, and you'll get WAY more sashimi for less money.

Best lasagna at the food counter- my mother makes me bring her some to California- and a few of their French baguettes ! So good!
