This place is absolutely worth a visit because of its gardens . Take about 2 hours to explore them. It's only a short walk from the historic center of Sintra so no need to take a taxi .

Awesome place to visit, specially during hot days. Very cool, with plenty to see, even if you just want to stay in the gardens . They should ask for money (tickets) and use it for some renovations.
Plan to spend at least 2 hours wandering around the most wonderful and quirky garden you will ever experience. More quirky than Park Guell in Barcelona maybe.
A must-see day trip from Lisbon. Basically a playground for adults. Give yourself a few hours to explore all the hidden tunnels and staircases.

Nice old house. The really magnificent thing is the garden with its many hidden paths and stairs leading up and down the hills , little grottos like secret paths, stunning plants...
Come get lost in the mazes, the subterranean well and the rest of the merriment. Pro Tip - ask the front desk for a recommended route to navigate it best!
For me this is the best Castle in Sintra. Huge with lots of secrets. Prepare to walk for a while!
Sintra's answer to Disneyland. Expect: beauty from a far... concrete structures up close. Visit: The Initiation Well . Bring: a flashlight, spare socks and a camera .
What a strange, mystical places. Watch out, it will take some time to explore all the bits and pieces. But it's worth it. Surprises after every corner.
Disneyland for adults. Bring a picnic and someone who likes you for who you are as a person. Impress them with fine champagne , jewelry and fast cars...and this place.

Gorgeous. Gets very crowded , even on weekdays in low season. Go first thing in the morning (10 am) preferably, or last thing before close.

If you’re doing a Sintra day trip, I would recommend Moorish castle and the Pena Palace. Can buy your tickets online in advance for a slight discount too. View from it is breathtaking. - Xinnie
