McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum is a museum The Loop Chicago located in United States.
376 N Michigan Ave (at N Michigan Ave) Chicago , IL 60601 United States
Making its debut in 2006, this museum is dedicated to the history of the Chicago River and the city ‚'s movable bridges . The museum is located in the southwest tower of the Michigan Avenue Bridge .
Its well worth the $5 donation for the history or engineering buff. Did you know “Chicago” means “stinky skunk” in a local Indian dialect for the smell of certain native weeds along the river .
The bridges of Chicago do go up when certain tall boats come through and this is one of the only places where you can see the engineering and mechanics behind it all!
The only one of its kind, this museum shows the inside of the Michigan Ave bridge while tracing the history of the Chicago river from the 17th century to today. Cute , inexpensive , and worth a visit!
Thats nice stop to spend half hour in a rainy day during hava a riverwalk in Chicago to hava a short knowledge about the history of bridges and behinds....
Free admission on Sundays!
The bridgehouse and museum is quite small and cramped. Also, it can get congested on the narrow staircases.
Great little museum nobody knows about.
Free on Sundays!
