Historic, as a New Yorker I do think this place is a contender to Katz's, or will at least satisfy your smoked meat/pastrami craving while in Montreal, definitely a must-try spot, owner is nice too!

It’s one of the oldest and most famous places in town . Delicious smoked meat sandwiches in the Mile End neighbourhood. Tip: We bypassed the bulk of the line by getting takeout (separate entrance).

If you’re in MTL you must hit up the famous Schwartz’s. Better to go earlier then wait in line hungry. The smoked meat sandwich is delicious and juicy! Make sure to get a side of pickle too.

One of the oldest smoked meat places in Montréal. Get there early or you will be waiting in line for a while. You can go to the Take Out section for faster service and eat outside on a bench or car

Smoked meat sammie. Do i think its the best? Ehh katz deli still takes top spot imo. Skip the line and go in the takeout door and order, they still have some seating in there.

Make sure to ask for the fatty meat because they WILL serve you the dry lean meat if you don't ask. There's a door for takeaway if you don't want to wait in the line for seating.

2 smoked meat sandwiches had a lot more meat than a large plate (according to server), so we did that. A lot of meat. The smoked meat was good, savoury with good spices & with pretty good marbling .

Cole slaw was some of the best I've ever had. Smoked meat sandwich hit the spot too. Would recommend taking your food to go if you don't want to wait in line (to the left of the sit-down restaurant ).

Very good, similar to Katz's food wise but so much smaller and more intimate which gives it major atmosphere points. Plus the Canadian knock offs cherry coke is ????????

Truly a classic and must visit. Put up with the lines to get inside the classically designed/decorated interiors. Not much space but the smoked meat tastes truly fresh & spicy (not hot but flavorful)

An absolute classic. Come here and wait in the line . Reminds me a lot of Katz's in NYC. Get the smoked meat sandwich with mustard . Comes on white bread . Wash it down with a ginger ale .

My goodness, what isn't good here!??? The place is really crowded and you will probably have to stand in line to get in but once you do, your mouth will have an orgasm! Awesome, friendly staff !

Smoked meat , a pickle and black cherry pop is the thing to order. Ask for medium meat (medium fat). Also bring cash... doesn't look like they take cards any more.

It's communal seating so you might have to sit with a stranger. They except American $ but there's a 10% charge. The medium fatty is the way to go.

Go at a weird time for a less harried experience. Smoked meat is obviously the way to go. Cole slaw was a surprise hit! Vinegary, not creamy. Yum.

Takeout is the way to go. Just eat it in your car. The line is always pretty long but in our experience, the wait doesn't take more than 30mins. Arrive early too

The smoked meat sandwich is good but too basic : Bread , mustard to smoked meat . Good meat. Good atmosphere, looks genuine, à little wait if you want to eat inside.

Smoked meat at its best. There's often a long queue in front of the restaurant . Make sure you wait- it's worth it.

Ordering a bit confusing: got combo (off menu ), on server's recommendation, instead of pickles etc by themselves. I didn't know if the "combo" came with bread : maybe it was just the non sandwich items

Order Meat combo, French fries , pickle and cherry coke . They only accept cash only . If you don't want to wait for a table, go to Schwartz's takeout , which is next door and they accept credit card

Really good smoked meat with democratic prices :) smoked meat sandwich + cherry soda is a must.
