A must-see for all Lisbon visitors. Take the tramway here to go to Belém. Take the lively Rua Augusta by passing through the Arc of Triumph. You can go up the arc for a wonderful view .
Biggest open space in downtown Lisbon !! The square is surrounded with shops and bars ,definitely worth a visit. It has a cool Beer Museum and a tourist information facility.
In southeastern current of this square, there is a very nice museum about the history of the city . Very interesting, good sound system and a better understanding of the town through its past.
On June 3, 1515, someone had the dumb idea to have an elephant and rhino fight in this plaza . The elephant immediately fled, trampling people on its way. I think of that story every time I’m here.
Beer museum , wine tasting , nice restaurants . The main square in Lisbin you can get the yellow trams from here, boats on the river and so on...
One of the most beautiful squares in Europe .. A must to visit while in Lisbon !!
One of best squares in Lisbon center. Enjoy cafes and restaurants around with beautiful tejo river view
Beautiful big square , but beware the shady men on it trying to offer 'hash ' and 'cocaine' (or sunglasses)
Beautiful view and I add the picture where you can see the bridge and Christ the king! Just wow view amazing !!
Lovely view in every angle. This is a place full of History. Walk to Cais do Sodré and when you get there, grab a bite at Sol e Pesca.
This is the area of Lisbon that says “Good to see you!” Walk around the shops in small streets and enjoy old town .

The top of the Monumental Arch represents Glory crowning Genius and Valour. Beneath them are Viriatus, Vasco da Gama, the Marquis of Pombal and Nuno Álvares Pereira.
At the Centre stands a statue of King José I. Beneath him Fame leads an Elephant and Triumph leads a Horse, which trample on conquered Africa and Asia. In the front Medallion is the Marquis de Pombal.
Great place to walk around and lots of restaurants around! Fun fact: it's one of the biggest squares in Europe (280x280m).
Gorgeous square opening up a large shopping area..
People viewing and relax on the beach which is right in front. Stroll, sit, relax and soak in the sun!!!
Beautiful place with a breahless view of the sea. It's a nice place to start a tour around Lisbon.
Huge square by the beach and promenade. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
On 1 February 1908, the square was the scene of the assassination of Carlos I, the penultimate King of Portugal. So beautiful, but with a turbulent history!
Looking for somewhere to eat in this area. You won't go wrong at nosolo Italia. Chocolate sauce to die for
Beautiful and artistic gate to enter the city from the river side of Lisboa!
good place to go and realx with the water, but its TO MANY annoying drug sellers that comes up to you to sell drugs, the police really have to do somethinga bout that problem
very touristy , but nice, especially while the sunset ????
Welcome to the Lisbon! First visit the Story Museum and then browse around the little shops and cafes .
A good place to hang around, provides great view on Statue of King José I and also the Rua Augusta Arch.
The great "gate to the city "! Imagine descending from a boat on the Tagus and stepping up that place towards the big arc to enter the city .
Nice place....but be aware of the aftermath of new year celebrations, which is a nightmare to return as there is literally no taxi around. Either leave early or stay more until the crowd disperse
For an appetizer , try the pineapple-&-goat-cheese ravioli drizzled with a cherry-cardamom cream. For a main course, opt for lamb served with Algarvian orange chutney and a mix of field greens.
One of Lisbon's most beautiful squares and views
It is a nice place, quite big I would say. I lik it very much but I feel it quite empty - probably is it mant to gather many people. I wouldn't go there on the afternoon of a hot summer day. ENJOY!!!
Lisbon's traditional "front door", where visiting dignitaries would disembark with great pomp and circumstance.
The buzzing square in the back, the river in front and the sun. A perfect combo
huge, great view to the amazing river and even little beaches !!
Nice. It´s possible to go upstairs on the roof.
Impressive! Very dramatic archway with busy little cafes and restaurants around the square
Big beers and a cool street level view .
Big square with view of the Arch of Triumph and the port of Lisbon.
It's a very big square and could be used for playing sports but it isn't. So it's just a square. Still beautiful though. It's probably in your tourist guide. You dirty tourist .
The tourist trap caffees are reasonably priced. At night you'll be offered all kinds of drugs next to the fountain .
Great plaza with wonderful views . Nice breeze from the ocean.
In May 2011 you have 3 coffees and two restaurants . All the coffees have outside tables . The two restaurants are pretty Nice and not so expensive . Mainly is modern portuguese food .
