Catacombe di San Sebastiano

Sts Peter and Paul were hidden here. In addition, this houses our Lord's footprints (Quo Vadis?), the arrow that pierced St. Sebastian , and Bernini's last sculpture , The Savior, at age 82

The name 'catacomb' originated in this spot, where a complex of underground burial sites situated near a tufa quarry was described as being kata kymbas - 'near the quarry'.

The most beautiful catacombs in the area...specially the last 3 tombs at the end of the tour , discovered just a century ago with the original painting on the wall.

you van only enter the catacombs via guided tour . the last one leaves at 16:30

No photos allowed but very best place to visit. Not near any train stops, though.

Closed till 21 feb 2018. Closed every sunday.

Lugar histórico para os Cristãos. É tenebroso mas vale a visita. Custo por pessoa 8 euros com direito a guia. Na Igreja acima das catacumbas se encontra os restos mortais de São Sebastião.

Le più belle fra le catacombe del parco dell'Appia Antica. I tour guidati (ogni mezz'ora) sono belli e interessanti.

No dejes de entrar a la iglesia , para mi el mejor busto de Cristo se encuentra alli.

La basilica ospita una statua del Bernini. Molto piacevole la visita guidata.
