The restaurant definitely lives up to its hype. Super busy but friendly , awesome staff . Waiters entertain little kids and take them on the kitchen tours . And yeah, beer and food are delicious.
Fun, loud German eatery with plenty of beers on tap (served any size you want!). Food was tasty- part of the joy is being sat at communal tables and meeting your neighbor.
They won't seat you until your entire party is there, so make sure your friends all arrive on time! Potato pancakes a must, & ask to sub for spatzle if your plate doesn't already come w/ it. Trust me!
The best schnitzel I've ever had outside of Germany, I always ask for extra lemon because I eat the entire thing (seriously it's big). Potato pancakes to share + great German beer on tap
You really can't go wrong with comfort food - and german food is the ultimate comfort food . Try the spätzle , a pasta dish with plenty of cream and cheese , with a Radler to wash it down!
One of my favorite neighborhood spots . Authentic German food and beer , friendly service and cozy atmosphere . Dinner is awesome, but they have a great brunch menu on the weekend as well .
Hot Bavarian pretzels with cool cheese dip - show stopper. The bread is unlike any bread , it's better. The Venison w plum sauce is out of this world.
Pricey and very limited vegetarian options . Warm pretzel , potato soup , and wiener schnitzel are solid. Skip the potato pancakes .
Potato dumplings with pork and mushroom gravy were amazing. Excellent spaetzle . The schnitzel wasn't quite right, but it was still pretty good. Gravy might be from a mix. Worth a stop
Share the DAS BOOT with your friends if they can't handle 2L worth of beer ! Make sure to order the pretzels while you wait for your entree!
The German food here was delicious and took me back to my childhood in E. Europe. Excellent service too. All the schnitzels are great.
The menu, which covers spätzle , schnitzels & dense, dark breads , is authentically German , and not for the faint of belly. An impressive array of flavoursome German beers is served in tall steins. Read more
Genuine German food endorsed by a German I know :) Really like the Jagerschnitzel , trout , and potato pancakes !
I had no idea German food could be so tasty. My gluten free plate of some kind of Marsala beef and sauerkraut could easily have fed two giant football players. Yum!
The potato pancakes with homemade apple sauce were so good! Also shared the Hacker-Pschorr Weiss — great beer for a casual beer drinker like myself.
Trust this tip by a German: Drink the Kölsch on tap and the Schneider Weisse from the bottle. Potato pancakes and the Schnitzel were both good. Get it with the Spätzle though.
Even if it looks packed, if you're a small group you might be able to snag a spot in the alcove behind the bar . Really authentic and fun German.
The food is ok, the beer is good. It's extremely noisy . It is not fun to go on a date. It is very fun to go with a large group in which you can compete with the noise. Order a boot of beer & share it.
The quality of food and the prices are fantastic. Make sure to order the pretzels with cheese . Read more
Schlenkerla doppelbock oak smoke: 10. Sauteed venison medallions in red wine plum sauce : great texture 8. Red cabbage : good, but too sweet for large quantities 5. Spatzle : too egg-y, personally 3.
Pork sausage is delicious. Excellent service and great for large groups. Groups should order das Boot
The ravioli and potato pancakes are delicious, and if (like me) you're not too knowledgeable about German beers , the friendly staff always has great recommendations.
With every Sf trip, Suppenkuche is a must. Try to plan a your trip with a Saturday involved, since it's the only say they serve their special Suckling Pig in Bier Sauce. More at http://is.gd/SKinSF
I ordered the Kartoffelpuffer and Apfelschorte! Cute , cozy vibes - definitely recommend
Authentic German food and super helpful staff . Get a brat with kraut and mustard and an ice cold beer . Prost!
Food blogger Stephanie Stiavetti of The Culinary Life recommends Suppenküche because it has "a deliriously tasty fusion of traditional German cuisine and modern American culinary creativity."
The best German food I've had outside of Germany. The Spätzle is AMAZING and the potato pancakes are absolutely delicious
Love this place. Been coming since 93. Beers good. Food always is solid. Love me some potato pancakes
I love the spatzle , red cabbage , beef with cranberries , pork loin ... Really all the food is outstanding, it's just extremely loud .
brunch ? order the large bfast with cold cuts . wrap the meat and cheese in the lettuce, dip in mustard , and hey presto, Teutonic lettuce wrap
Took my German mother here and we decided it's the most authentic German food outside of grandma's kitchen!
Not all German beer is craft beer but some of it qualifies and Suppenküche will have it. This is high quality German beer and it tastes surprisingly fresh.
Great beer and food, but the room with the bar can be too loud to easily converse.
While I love all their carbs (bread , pretzels , bread dumplings , spaetzle ), their meats are touch and go.
Veal medallions and an unfiltered wheat beer is the best way to end a week. Potato soup is great too.
The roasted chicken special is bomb, get it with mash and extra sauce! ????
The Portabella Mushroom dish (with Spinach & Feta and a red pepper sauce ) – YUM – I live for it! The Cheese Spätzle in a rich onion butter sauce would put anyone into food coma. Simply amazing! Read more
my favorite german place in the city . my fav is the brat and i always get the apfelsaftshorle
Schnitzel , Spätzle und Biere ! If you like a Radler, try the Russe!
Spätzle , Schnitzel und Biere ! If you like a Radler, try their Russe!
Köstritzer is a phenomenally good dark beer . Not at all hoppy, but instead smooth, refreshing, and has a great taste.
Try the Crispy Potato Pancake - The photo doesn't do it justice, but that's apple sauce on top. And the potatos are really crispy -- the combination is outstanding.
Wiener Schnitzel and Nürnberger Bratwurst are excellent. Try the Obaztda to start!
This place is awesome for German food in SF. Super hip decor and packed on a Monday night.
Really good German food can just hit the spot perfectly, and these guys know how to deliver .
Their brunch menu is full of sausage and eggs and general awesome! Its a must visit. Be friendly cause they will seat you family style . It makes it that much better.
So good! Any schnitzel and spaetzle but everything I've tried has been great
Smoked beer , lentils soup , lamb chops , ... Everything we tried was really nice
Can't go wrong with the bacon-wrapped meatloaf and an Augustine Maximizer. Thank me later!
Potato pancakes are amazing but massive!
Great revitalized German beer haus. The sausage plate and mustards didn't disappoint! Highly recommend splitting it with a few friends. - Blake S
Nice place, family run with great beers. My favorite go to is the Spaten Octoberfest. Food is not bad, though don't expect any Michelin stars. - Rafael
Great beers and food! Our waiter was friendly and helpful in finding a beer that suited my taste. The food was as creative as German food can actually get ???? views are beautiful as well! - Aysu Ozgur
All cocktails are awesome! Order at the end of the bar (the side nearest the restroom). - Steve Fadden
Fun spot to grab a great cocktail in Hayes Valley. It can get very packed at night. - Raj S.
Strawberry Tres Leches is one of the best ice cream flavors I’ve had in my life. Definitely beats Bi-rite! - Shalin Mantri
