Really a special, cozy Kyoto-style sushi restaurant . I recommend going off-menu for the daily-special sushi , sashimi , rolls, and most importantly, Obanzai (not to be missed)

Bin Yang

The best oshizushi (box sushi ) you're likely to find in New York, interestingly some of them utilizes raw fish (traditionally it's cured or cooked only); get that and start with a few daily obanzais!

jake furst

A slice of Tokyo in BK. You won't find better, more authentic tofu in NYC. The agedashi and the home made varieties are delicate and delicious. Everything else is fantastic, esp the nightly specials.

CITY GRIT

The Obanzai (Kyoto-style Japanese Tapas ) changes daily but has never disappointed us! Neither has the Agadashi Tofu , Shrimp Toji Maki , or the Beef Kakuni! (Walk-ins Only)

Celine Galliano

Everything was delicious. Really surprised by the Tofu , incredibly tasty and melts in the mouth- a must-try! We arrive a bit late 9:30pm and they were out of the specialsI... we need to come back!

Michael C

Everything was terrific. Salmon entree, miso soup , small plate selection of spicy shredded beef . And service was wonderful. Best Japanese meal I've had.

DailyCandy

This comfy spot is as close to authentic Kyoto-style as you can get. Daily obanzai (tapas ) is a must; the chirashi — a heaping bowl of sashimi , veggies , omelet , and rice — is one of the best around.

Alex Metzler

Salmon Box was great and the fresh tofu (warm, or cold) was delicious. Best part was the sushi having subtle rice vinegar in the rice , just like grandma used to make. You don't get that very often.

Autumn Rayne

Tofu is meant to be like they serve it forget what you thought you knew about tofu . Try it warm with broth. Sushi is fresh and authentic . Try the box sushi for something different.

Brandon F.

One of my favorite places for decent and authentic Japanese food . Great lunch specials and may I also recommend their awesome tofu pudding .

F. Bastard

If this isn't the best Japanese food in Brooklyn I'm....guilty of overstatement. Try the house-made tofu (I like the agadashi), banzai (small plates ), pressed sushi . Great value at lunch .

tze chun

Great daily specials for $5 and ask for recommendations in the daily catch! Ice cream sandwiches are a fun take on traditional Japanese pancakes

Amy Coates

The tonkatsu is perfect. Light and crispy on the outside, super tender and juicy inside, with the classic tonkatsu "bbq " sauce.

Aaron Best

A little pricey , but worth the splurge. The Chef 's Sashimi plate and agedashi tofu are our go-tos, but they also have a rotating menu of Japanese tapas .

Nicole L

What a gem in Cobble Hill ! Fresh sushi and tasty daily Obanzai. Their homemade Agedashi Tofu is not to be missed!! Friendly staff and low key atmosphere make the dining experience that much better.

Gianna Nebbia

Everything was so deeply flavorful. Their broths are insane. Tofu was divine. And the sushi is just on another level.

Emily Wilson

Cute vibe. Feels like you're in Japan. Get at least one kind of hako sushi (box sushi ), and save room for the green tea ice cream sandwich .

M K

The sashimi platter is divine. The fish is super-fresh, the service lovely. Get a drink next door at Henry Public and they'll call you when your table is ready.

Eric Brodzinski

Always incredible. The fried tofu , any of the Kyoto style sushi plates, sashimi platter , and you MUST try the black sesame ice cream .

etta y

Happy to have this in the hood. Kakuni tasted more like Japanese demi-glace but was delicious all the same. Rolls were perfect. Green salad was actually exciting, not the afterthought it so often is.

Connie Chiu

Wow. Hard to come by good sashimi in Brooklyn, let alone Manhattan . This place is so good. Also great space.

Oz Lubling

Super authentic Japanese food . Their sushi is incredible but make sure you go for the unique Japanese dishes (fresh made tofu and shrimp toji maki )

Linda Chow

A gem in the neighborhood ! Authentic Japanese food in a cozy space . Try the obanzai and soy milk pudding . Miso-marinated salmon was incredibly delicious!

Nikki Sylianteng

Seaweed salad is really light, fresh, and flavorful. Service is great, but that is typical of pretty much all Japanese restaurants . I will be coming back to try their lunch special .

David Rosenberg

Excellent authentic Japanese fare. Don't miss the deep fried tofu and the seaweed salad to start, and later the mackerel Kyoto boxed roll is delicious.

Erica Choi

Obanzai (daily specials of the day, $5 each!), Agedashi tofu , Shrimp toji maki , Lobster roll . Tofu pudding for dessert is a MUST. 💯

Dennis Hansen

We ordered the small plate of assorted pieces of sushi and got this nice plate! Everything tasted so good!

Micco Wu

This is a super cozy authentic family own Japanese restaurant . They are famous for their box press sushi and soy based tofu and deserts

TN

The salmon was SO GOOD. Cute spot, great service. Hard to get a table and no reservations

Jason S.

Good food and sake . Very busy restaurant but the service was still speedy. The spider roll was my favorite. Give them a try if you are in the city .

Peter Boyce

Daily obanzai (specials / small plates ); seaweed salad ; sake selection . Can skip the sashimi .

miles lennon

The daily tapas makes coming here really unique and interesting. The sashimi plate isn't huge the quality is fantastic

Andrei Kryssov

Homemade tofu was awesome. Save room for the homemade tofu pudding for dessert , it's amazing!

Charlene

Everything is great here! Get the fresh-made tofu , seaweed salad , hako sushi , Kyoto-style futomaki, and any specials of the day!

Michael Dempsey

Amazing kyoto style food + Sake . Put your name in, go to Elsa around the corner for a drink, come back and eat.

Daiji

Order bunch of appetizers ! It's not a sushi place but they have very nice Kyoto style HAKO sushi as well as the regular sushi . gets crowded fast. go early.

Liz Cohen

Order the house made tofu cold and any of the hako pressed sushi varieties available. Personal favorites are the salmon and the unago.

Alex

the lunch bento is incredible and comes with a daily obanzai and entrees of the day!! $10

Enjoy meals like the tekka don--soy marinated tuna sashimi over a bowl of rice , topped with a shredded egg omelet--or sample the fresh-made tofu http://www.nycgo.com/slideshows/must-see-cobble-hill/10

Very amazing. Homemade tofu , outstanding small plates of vegetables , high quality sushi - try the yellowtail .

Ryan Brenizer

I always just get all the Obanzai because I trust the chefs here completely.

Ronald Widha

The rolls are pretty big compared to other sushi places in the city , so you might want to start small, and order more later.

Helena Wong

I loved both the Salmon and Tuna Hako! Can't go wrong with any of the Hako.

Ian Griggs

Love the Kyoto style sushi , great experience. Gets crowded quick, so get in there early to avoid a wait.

Compass

Japanese small plates , daily twists on traditional miso soups and sushi , and a cult-loved in-house tofu recipe.

Autumn Rayne

Good sushi overall. Tofu was amazing so fresh and creamy tasting. Nice place for a date. Friendly staff .

Nikki Sylianteng

I always come here when I want to relax, have a good meal and good conversation. Lunch specials are a good value .

Justin Kalifowitz

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in New York. Low key , awesome service. Must order the Obanzai (daily appetizer specials ).
