서울성곽 4대문(大門) 가운데 하나로, 도성의 북쪽 대문이다. 1396년에 도성의 문들이 준공될 때 함께 세워졌다. 원래 이름은 숙청문(肅淸門)으로, 도성 북쪽에 있는 대문이라 하여 북대문 또는 북문 등으로도 부른다. 1413년 지맥을 손상시킨다는 상소로 문을 폐쇄하였다. 숙청문이 숙정문으로 바뀐 시기는 정확히 알려져 있지 않다. 기록에 숙정문 외에 북정문(北靖門)이란 표현도 나오는데, 숙청문과 숙정문이 혼용되다가 뒤에 숙정문으로 바뀐 것으로 추정된다. 지금의 숙정문은 1976년에 복원한 것으로 2006년부터 일반에 개방되었다.

Great views , but a tough climb :) Lots of guards are stationed here, and photos are not allowed in some directions. Worth it though for a great view of Seoul.
Sukjeongmun is the north gate. It is the only remaining gate whose sides are still connected with the wall. Built in 1976, the gate pavilion was newly added to the wall.
