San Mateo is blessed with both ginji and yakko for grilled meat sticks. I like ginji a little better, but don't just order the sushi - grab up a bunch of the tasty bbq skewers !
Takoyaki roulette : all of them delicious but one is incredibly spicy and you can't tell which until it burns your tongue ! Not for the faint of heart :)
terrific spot to grab dinner in san mateo. surprisingly generally not that crowded (compared to some of the other nearby places) but their loss, your gain.
This place is not really good for sitting down and enjoying chatting with your friends. See the attached photo.
Please note the change in hours. No longer open for lunch on the weekdays. Please call ahead top make reservations or expect a long wait . Easy parking in the lot across the street.
Hands down the best izakaya outside of sf! Skewers and finger foods are all outstanding!
Skewers are awesome...especially chicken heart and mushroom . Gotta get the yamakake maguro
I've been searching for tako wasa for almost 2 months and I finally found it. Also get the takoyaki roulette . It's fun when you're with a group.
Yakitori is the way to go. For the adventurous: chicken neck, cartilage, and skin are better than they sound
8.95 lunch special of grille chicken cutlet w Japanese salsa , 3 skewers , soup and salad . Wish I was drinking their frosty Kirin on draft .
If you are on the fence about Yakitori , this may not be the best place to start.
Delicious yakitori . Excellent array of appetizers .
Gizzards and hearts skewers are the best, the chicken tails are what you expect. Also the beef skewer fantastic.
The ramen on the lunch menu is one of my favorites!
Chicken may be their focus, but it is the beef that you should try!
Awesome. I want to try everything on the menu.will go back again
The best chicken parts grilled to perfection!
The takoyaki roulette adds to the fun atmosphere of the restaurant .
the skewers are great - meatballs , beef , asparagus w/ bacon , chicken thigh , and gizzard if you are adventurous!
Kimchi Natto is a good combination!
Tempura Good. Took forever to get are order and didn't get all of are order. Draft beer cooler broke.

Lots of good skewers! Order the beef tongue for sure! Also chicken thigh and kaarage. I like the skewers with salt better than with sauce. Don't forget to try the green chili. It's lemon-y! - Lisa
yakiniku dinner course feeds two very well. try the beef tongue & save room for included dessert. - Alex Lam
One of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in San Mateo area. I usually get the Chicken Teriyaki Don but my parents and girlfriend always get the Curry Rice. Usually very busy come early. - Patrick Wang
Good Hong Kong style desert! Almond soup was pretty good (seasonal- fall). Milk tea is great; approved by a boba fan - Lucas Gerbeaux
The tapioca milk tea is the best. Egg puffs are much better than Eggettes, too! - jennifer s.
Variety of bakery items including local ones but no fresh GF. Skip packaged sushi with reduced sodium soy that contains corn syrup. Fresh and organic produce. - Ms Helene
