Small portions but everything is prepared and plated so beautifully. Potato and trout croquette is delicious, as is the freshly made silken tofu . Try the yakitoris and mochi dessert !
Fun (and smoky!) vibe. Gyoza , udon carbonara , and tsukune were all good. Skip the panna cotta - good flavor, but really stiff texture.
Very authentic - brought me back to yakitori in Japan. Order Maguro No Yukke rice bowl (add Uni), karaage , chiizu Katsu and any/all yakitori ! Yum yum
Rintaro's gyoza aren't always on the menu, but when they are, make sure you order the Berkshire pork-filled, lattice-surrounded dumplings . Read more
One of the best meals I've had in San Francisco. Period. Delicious skewers , and a great shochu selection. It's pricy , but well-worth it. The croquettes were great too, as well as the shabu .
Grab dinner at Rintaro tonight. This new spot will feature a changing menu dedicated to vegetables , fried dishes and grilled chicken (including a yakitori chef’s choice for $15.50) for now. Read more
Everything is amazing. The GizZard is phenomenal. The udon carbonara is out of this world. I never knew something so simple be so good.
The portions are perfect! Not huge American ones that leave you stuffed with tons of leftovers; but Japanese portions that leave you satisfied and still able to move. Everything is delicious!
You will feel transported in Kyoto. Try their Katsu with melted cheese in the middle and their Udon Carbonara . Everything else is amazing.
Make sure to get a sashimi platter , the croquettes , and the hojicha panna cotta !
We had so many things, delicious, a bit expensive , but worth it. Did not love the "carbonara " ones. The chicken wings , amazing!
Eat everything fried. Yakitori and udon were also a standout. Would avoid the steamed fish ... And get the pancake from the courtyard vendor!
The Panna Cotta is great and a little different than what you're used to ✨
Be sure to get the korokke: break open the exquisitely flaky and non-greasy panko coating (made from fresh Acme pain de mie) to reveal a creamy, fluffy, and lightly curried kabocha squash interior.
Once a month they have delicious pop up menus with a theme. Follow @afternoon.sf or @bayalien on Instagram for upcoming ones!
I LOVE this place. The duck/plum/chrysanthemum salad is bloody amazing. The tofu is light and delicious. Brilliant Yakitori too. Strongly recommended.
Big fan of the tamago dish and the whole, fried fish . My favorite new izakaya in SF ! Read more
Get the prefix menu: blown away by the sashimi , tofu , and the pork katsu . Yakitoris were solid
Their seafood sourcing is exquisite, shining in pristine dishes like the hirame no kombujime ($13.50), expertly cut sashimi of kombu-cured California halibut with the zip of fresh wasabi .
Everything is wonderful! Perfectly cooked, well presented, super fresh ingredients .
Fun place for tapas style Japanese cuisine. I enjoyed the fried chicken , yakitori , and the sashimi . Cocktails are a little watery
The yakitori are the stars here, but don't miss the tamago or the simmered beef shank.
Poorly thought out covid service, a lot of awkwardness with picking up and getting rid of food/drinks, everything was plated cute but not functionally so it falls everywhere, seats are milk crates :(
The daily sashimi spread is always perfection. Izakaya bits are stellar.
Hojicha panna cotta was so good, not stiff at all. Perfectly jiggly.
One of the best Izakaya places I’ve been to. Everything is awesome! The hojicha panna cotta is the highlight.
Fantastic food. Even more fantastic service.
Follow their Instagram for updates on guest chefs , one off menus, and popup events . @MR_RINTARO
Atmospheric Izakaya with bright salads , great yakitori and perfectly chewy udon . Nicely curated sake list.
Yakitori , katsu , sashimi ... everything is amazing. Don't miss the "limited" items. Udon > donburi .
Everything is perfection. No. Really. Loved the Kabocha croquette , the Gyoza , and rainbow trout .
Everything was fantastic, but the highlights were the rainbow trout , chicken karaage , and the raw tuna . Superb!
Potato and trout croquettes are perfectly fried, like in Japan.
The main event are the yakitori . Go for the fatty chicken cuts. They are always the best.
Authentic food! Loved the homemade tofu .
Most authentic izakaya in SF . Get the sweet potato beer and katsu
Amazing. Order anything on the menu - it will all knock your socks off.
Fabulous Japanese food ! And the inside is lit!
Get a seat at the counter and order the reasonably priced Prix Fixe menu .
Warm, peaceful space with well-executed yakatori.
Tofuuuuuu ... Matcha chuhai.... Trumpet mushroom skewer ...... UDON ..... Wonderful.
It's a Tuesday at all 630pm but there's a bunch of street parking available right in front!
Yakitori was grilled to perfection. Gizzards were really tasty.
House made tofu a must try. Warm environment, great service
Get the Gyoza ! Chef’s counter seats are great
Chicken meatball and trumpet mushrooms are a must!
Food was good, but not mind blowing. Delicious desserts . Great atmosphere.
Family style Japanese dining. Katsu was good as was gyoza . Left wanting more though.
Grab okonomiyaki , Asahi on tap and enjoy the wait.
Anything from the hibachi/grilled meat section is 11/10
Excellent, if slightly expense, Japanese comfort food. Come for brunch and the breakfast set and some pot stickers. - John Steidle
Try the decadent omakase...it is worth every penny...so yummy!!! - KaRiM OnTheGo
Get the hakkaisan sake. Just wish they had it in something bigger than 300 ml! Good stuff. Chicken heart is great too. - travel4food
Great service, amazing food an good atmosphere, that suits a well made whiskey cocktails. Try the Hamachi Shitake - Idan Benaim
The dried pea soup is the best I have ever had and perfect for backpacking - Amy Rappaport
