Karlsplatz (Stachus)

My favorite station in Munich, lot of shops and cafes beneath it, above is a beautiful fountain

Very lively square in the western part of historic centre. Historic gate – Karlstor – is an entrance to the shopping zone in Neuhauserstraße.

This famous square with its impressive gate marks the west end of the historic city centre. Stroll east for the main shopping district and to get to Marienplatz.

You can go shopping inside the station. There are a lot of stores: fashion, krafts, home deco... And also the only one Decathlon in Munich.

The name "Stachus" comes from an innkeeper named "Eustachius Föderl", who ran a restaurant here since 1755 with beer garden called "Stachusgarten".
