Pay $15 for a local to drive you to the green sand beach and back. Very bumpy and dusty ride. Note that you still have to hike down a short , steep path to the actual beach !

Dave Sawyer

Rent a Jeep with 4WD. Then, go here. The drive in was one of my favorite memories on the island — so much fun!! If it's a nice day, plan to spend most of it here. It was one of our favorite beaches .

It’s a long bumpy trek to get to this beach , so pay the Hawaiian Locals for a ride down to it. It can also get very windy until you climb down to this beautiful beach and forget all the troubles

Alex Song

In addition to the main beach go to the secret beach with sand that is way more green! Don’t miss it. It’s on the way and easy to miss.

Justin Sullivan

If you walk the paths toward the water the approach is panoramic. You will wonder how you possibly get to the bottom until you walk around to the other side and see the ladder on the rocks.

Mark J.

One of the most uniquely beautiful beaches in the world. Bring good shoes , water, and sun protection - there is no water or shelter on the hike , which is about 1h each way. Worth it!

Casey Anderson

Green sand comes from the olivine crystals in the rocks here. Prepare for a two hour hike in, or catch a local truck driver who offers a ride for cash payment. Bring water and supplies.

Talisa Chang

Rides are now $15 per person, and worth every penny. You can stand in the back of the pickup truck and enjoy the bumpy ride .

jane t

Walk took longer than expected. Super windy and sand gets in your eyes The beach is truly unique though. Take a ride for $10 from a 4wd instead. A guy sells the freshest coconuts at the parking lot .

Karen Crouch

Most days there are a couple of guys with beater trucks that will shuttle you to and fro for $10 per person. It's well worth the cost. The rough ride is an adventure in itself.

Sophie

Wear a pair of hiking shoes your in for an hour trek, no shoes you say?! Ask one of the locals for a paid ride there, Rodney is the best!

Anton Stetner

4WD is a must or you are hiking . Stay to the top road it is less bumpy. (the whole thing is really really bumpy. LOL) Drive will take about 40mins to cover just a few miles. The beach is awesome.

Ana Silva

You might want to just pay the 20 dollars round trip for a bumpy ride to the beach . The beach is pretty far from where you park before you’ll need a four wheel drive vehicle.

Teah

Unless you have all day, pay to be shuttled out to the beach . It's a family business and they'll take you and pick you up for $10-15. Worth it!

Kevin Scarbery

It's an hour hike each way. Wear shoes or sandals that protect your toes! The final climb down is a little steep, but there are stairs cut into the cliff to make it easy.

Danny M

If you hike - keep an eye out for a smaller beach on the way. It is more green than the big beach .

Tricia Scales

If you have 4 weal drive make sure to drive all the way to the green sand beach . If you walk its about a 45 min walk one way

Eric Gaby

The water is awesome and the sand almost looks like it has gold in it.

Amanda Thorne

Pay the $10 per person for a local to take you down. Totally worth it!! Super nice guys! Seriously.

Sung C

If you decide on a 4x4, it's about $25/person. Bring cash. The hike is really long.

FLAfamilyguru

You can hike in 1.5 miles or drive in with a local or a jeep. Quite the mission. Sand really is green.

Marcie Lopes

Wear shoes good for hiking . It's an hr walk or pay one of the guys with trucks to take you there from the parking area. It's a bumpy ride , so hold on!

L

Bring good hiking shoes and socks. Wear sunshades to protect you from all the flying sand, then don't forget the water.

Karen Crouch

Be aware. It is a 2 1/2 mile hike over rough terrain and lava fields to reach the beach . Not for the weak or faint of heart.

Natisha Hill

Definitely worth the trip!

Alex Skeen

One of the best beaches on the island (if you like big waves that is)

Jim W

Take the high road , closest to the fence is the most smooth ride.

Jay Miner

Try the green sand, it's delicious!

Bill Bradley

Nice beach easy walk.

Bill

The hike is really not that bad. It can be windy, which is nice if it is hot out.

Traci Fucci

Bring a couple water bottles and your swim suit.

Linder Szeto

BRING water!! Just pay Ben to drive you to and from. It's a an hour hike one way!!

Julie Ziemelis

Be prepared for the wind! Eat lunch in upper lot! From Caylin-9

Lance Owens

Come in the back way - GODS COUNTRY - nuff said

Anna Dackiewicz

Terrible road to get there. Hike only if you are prepared. View is amazing though!

Nick Stott

Don't be cheap and get the jeep beep beep. Lots of fun

Julie Ziemelis

Take the upper road if you want a less bumpy ride !

Joel Savitzky

1 hour walk through high-speed winds. Prepare to be covered in sand!

Geoffrey Brailsford

Favorite place in the world ;)

Bennett Travers

There are only two green sand beaches in the world (here and the Galapagos) . Sit back and enjoy it!

Julie Ziemelis

YOu can see if there are guides that can drive you down to the beach from the parking area. $20
