Aaron Burr , best known for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel, lived here during his brief marriage to Eliza Jumel, who ended it when she realized he was losing her money in land speculations.
This home played host to some of the colony’s most fashionable parties until being seized by the Continental Army in 1776 to serve as George Washington ’s HQ during the Battle of Harlem Heights. Read more
Between Sept & Oct 1776, General George Washington used the mansion as his temporary headquarters after he & his army were forced to evacuate Brooklyn Heights following their loss to the British Army.
Quaint little museum for some history lessons. 30 - 45 minute experience at most. A good destination to get out of the more dense parts of Manhattan.
Very poorly written/guided self tour . An the staff isn't inviting at all. That said, the house and artifacts are great. The garden and Sylvan Terrace are worth seeing even if you don't go inside.

Surprisingly great! The chandelier is fascinating. Exhibitions are carefully curated. It's much less crowded so quite enjoyable. Guided tours are at 3pm - WEI WEI
Friendly, knowledgable rangers! For the tours, get to the Grange a at least a few minutes in advance. They do have open self-guided hours as well. - L. T.
