The most popular time of year to visit this spot is around the holiday season, as the Christmas decor is unbeatable. To warm yourself up, order the Gluhwein and the apple strudel .
The potato pancakes are to die for..you can't forget to start with those. Weißwurst is great..spatzle and schnitzel are even better. Great selection of German beer and food!
The place gets so packed during the holidays, try to snag a reservation so you have some elbow room. Split the potato pancakes , the portions are huge!
I love coming here at least once during the Christmas season . If you don't feel 1000% more x-massy when you're here...well look in the mirror at the bar...cause you're prob green n fuzzy...grinch!
I loved everything here! The Christmas decorations are beautiful. You HAVE to get the mulled wine - yummy. The mussels , potato pancakes , chicken schnitzel and the sausage were all good!
It's always Christmas in here. Even if it's not the actual season but you're feeling low on the yuletide spirit in your day to day, this place will definitely have you singing Mariah when you leave.
A must visit during the Christmas season---ceiling decorations are awesome
Apple pancake is making you dream of apfel strudel . Decorations are stunning. Feeling so Christmas . We came for breakfast time so there were no crowds of people and that's adorable!
If you're going over the holidays make a reservation , even for lunch ! The line is always out the door (for good reasons). Once you're inside grab a spiked apple cider and get ready to eat.
Great drink selection -- German beers , wine , and interesting specialty cocktails . I wasn't expecting the food to be anything spectacular..
Amazing Christmas decorations . Food was very good. Expensive, as one would expect in NYC. Would go again.
Waited for 1 hour outside (coffee shop across the street for a warm drink) and it took another hour to be seated but it was worth it! Warm wine , jäger schnitzel , schnapps , Christmas decorations !
Make a reservation 2 months in advance if you want to secure a table (w/o the fuss) during the holiday season
It's all great! Can't go wrong. First time I had been here in 41 years. Awesome experience.
Awesome Christmas decorations , but for having fun decor the staff seems very serious & there's an elderly crowd at the bar . Swing by & take a picture in the decorations for fun! Then spend $ next door
Amazing decor during holidays and great drinks. Food is typical German fairs that is way overpriced for what it is but large portions
order the paprika Schintzel, Mussels with Riesling Broth, and Potato Cakes w/apple sauce and sour cream . you cant go wrong!!! caramel martini is so so strong! Beware! Lol
Search out the dolls between October and March to let them observe your internal terror. Also, best for a drink and see the decor, the food is extremely overpriced.
May be more known for its holiday decoration and cocktails but food isn't bad either though a bit expensive . Never seen sautéed schnitzel before - recommend trying jaeger schnitzel
Great eggnog and delicious food. I definitely don't regret the holiday wait! The festive decor alone is an experience
Nice place. Way too damn hot. Cool off with a lager or five and try to spot the hidden Easter eggs . The King salmon was pretty good but rice was definitely way overcooked. Worth a visit!
If you want to come here for dinner in Dec make a reservation in early November. Otherwise be prepared for a long long long wait in the cold.
The Christmas decor in here is so festive it's almost overwhelming. Enjoy a glass of the mulled wine and take in the dysplay
It’s all about the decorations, but the Jagerschnitzel was pretty. We also enjoyed the strudel
Be ready to pay too much for mediocre German food , but you're really paying for the spectacular Christmas decorations that are up from November through May.
Sausage platter was great especially with a haufbrau! The atmosphere is amazing
Lana and Raul are the best. Been here for ages. Really great people.
Obviously amazing decor, great beer , all around superb
Come here just to see the Xmas decorations. They are on steroids. Their mulled wine is amazing!
Truly impressive decor during holidays . Just go easy on the $14 mulled wines !
At this time of year, xmas, i looks like a trailer truck of xmas decor exploded in the place. Looks really nice. Worth a visit.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, and the food was delicious. Great surprise!
The Christmas decorations are beautiful! The food and service, however, are unimpressive.
Great decorations.. But they were pretty rude. Made us all order entrees to get a table and then made us move after an hour to seat someone else before we had time for an end of meal drink.
Hadn't been here in years. It looked the same and felt dated. But the food was delicious and I would recommend.
Christmas decorations are the only reason to be here. Take your photo and leave! Prices, food and service are ridiculous.
Great place, great food. Making new friends. Can't ask for much more .
Scrooge meets Grinch ambiance!
Classical music playing around closing time and the old timers were waltzing around. Good times.
Come here for the Christmas decorations ! And grab a good german beer too
Anything: "You’re not really here for the food; you’re here for the lavishly ornate, borderline-insane, totally delightful Christmas decorations ." Read more
If it's packed - don't go. Otherwise great food & fun holiday atmosphere.
Surprisingly large portions ! Loved the christmas smoothie
Enjoy European craft beer at the German-themed restaurant on Third Avenue.
If you want to come around Christmas , make a reservation in July.
Order a hot toddy . Sip the sweet cream top, then combine with a strawsip of the bitter bottom. Amazing!
Great spot for anyone not prone to seizures.
A quaint throwback with excellent strudel and a fine selection of schnapps . Try the Apfel Schnapps with a glass of Hofbrau!
Go for the Christmas decorations . But do it after Christmas .
The decorations in this place make it worth a trip alone!
Good food. Solid beer. Gets really packed though and they don't take reservations or hold seats so get there early and together. - Joe Gruchacz
Very tasty schnitzel. Warm, freshly baked soft pretzel will be the best you ever have. Atmosphere a little dank but fun/friendly. - Nina LoSchiavo
Huge portions! The huge pretzel is awesome - mustard is good. - Melissa Lin
Cozy with lots of wood, brick and a fireplace. Great for a cold, rainy day. - Elissa Stanton
Great bar. Relaxed atmosphere. The bartenders are nice. Try the house ale. - Calvin Multanen
