Cozy , intimate , and laid back atmosphere . No wifi , but it adds to the charm. Their cheesecakes are fabulous and so is the baklava . Try the Hungarian coffee and stay a while. Staff is the best.

katwiththek

It has a good atmosphere. Very busy and packed when I was there. (You need to be okay sharing tables). The pastries and coffees are at affordable prices . Great student hang out.

SuYeone Jeon

Cash only and one of the BEST croissants in nyc. Make sure to ask to heat it up if you're staying and getting some work done. No wifi .

Tamos Oz

Mindblowing croissants in a beautiful atmosphere. The Hungarian Pastry Shop is an iconic NYC coffee shop , perfect for meeting cute philosophy PhD students, catching up with friends, or reading a book .

Carol

Super spot in W. Harlem. Expect a line , hardly any seats, BUT great service and even greater pastries . I think a lot of students from Columbia go to hang. Recommend the lemon cheesecake !

Jordan Sim

A very cosy (shoulder-to-shoulder) experience. The idea of this cafe is romantic on a cold winter's day. Coffee , pastries , cosy cafe .

Wailana Wong

The chill ambiance and hot cider make this the perfect study spot on campus. Your convos may be overheard as the tables are close to each other so speak or text accordingly. Have a piece of strudel !

Odeida Moquete

I love baklava but do they make kataifi? I know this is a Hungarian place and not Greek but just askin'. Look forward to trying the bakalva anyway.

Valerie S

Cozy place to do work or chat with friends while enjoying a pastry and coffee . The desserts are delicious and staff is friendly .

Joe Ottenthal

Interesting atmosphere, and the setting is quiet enough to have a conversation, which is hard to find in the city . The cheesecake and coffee were excellent and the service was quick and friendly .

shan smith

First pastry shop I went to when I moved here and it's still my favorite. I've never tried anything that I didn't like. Great spot to relax or pick up treats for dinner parties.

Beka C

Croissants in the morning and creamer puffs in the afternoon. Be ready to try something new or else you might have to wait 3 hours for the next batch to come out.

Elie Bleier

AWESOME, out of control pastries . Columbia students socializing instead of studying. Cozy with outdoor space . NO WIFI , which makes the ambience that much better but doesn't eliminate laptops entirely.

Will Harahan

Having a cup of coffee here is like being an extra in a scene from a rom-com in the ’90s. Cash-only.

Doodle Hedz

best outdoor seating coffee spot with good coffee and even better pastries I mean it is a pastry shop after all and there ain't on back I my hood across the park .

John-Carlos Lunardini

Comforting neighborhood hangout. You will overhear much talk of theses and pseudo intellectual discourse but the chocolate croissants are A1 makes it worth it. No iced coffee in the winter :(

Eric Gallegos

Charming, affordable neighborhood spot with good pastries and strong coffee . Crowded enough to be interesting, quiet enough to hold a conversation.

Joe Montes

Authentic Eastern European desserts are all great! The apricot linzer tarts and almond horseshoe cookies are the best

Ward Sullivan

One of my favorite places to people watch in NYC. Grab a coffee , a dessert , sit outside (weather permitting) and watch away. A lot of Columbia University students frequent this spot.

Katya Korzhik

Common guys! You can't believe foursquare! Who said that its cheep??? Coffee to go 3.75??really..I spend almost the same in Italian restaurant on the corner of 114 w street for beauty cheescake

Grace Marr

Hungarian coffee is really good. All pastries are fresh and delicious. Great atmosphere for studying, reading, or meeting friends

CollegeCandy

The Hungarian Pastry Shop has been meeting place for students and uptown writers since the 70s. This shop is the perfect place to pair a cup of coffee with a succulent old-world pastry .

Amy Spriggs

Awesome pastries (obvs) and good Hungarian coffee . Lots of space. NO WIFI which can really help keep you focused on studying. Dim lighting . Can get loud when crowded .

Wejdan ✨

If I lived here I would come here all the time! Very cozy . Order at the counter then grab the nearest chair while you can.

Angela

Try their Hungarian coffee ! It’s coffee with almond syrup and steamed milk !

Emily Haenny

Chocolate cream puff , almond horseshoe cookie , lemon cake , and always a Hungarian coffee !! My favorite place in the neighborhood !

Sharon Tsao

Love their Hungarian coffee - whip cream , almond , and a bit of sugar

Jacob David

Off the hook great spot to relax old world style. try everything

Untapped Cities

This shop seems to be stuck in the past. There are old signs that advertise pastries that are no longer sold and graffiti by Columbia students from years ago. Still, the newer pastries are delicious.

Pol Gomà Deàs

Tasty pastries (take the cherry cake ) and nice atmosphere. A lot of people working even though there is no WiFi .

Amanda Leazer

The Russian coffee is my favorite! My sister is hooked on the Hungarian coffee !

S. L.

This is a Morningside Heights gem. Get the iced coffee , cheese danish , baklava...or any sweet treat . Just remember it's cash only !

Nissa

My new favorite spot, and just across from the cathedral , top tier pastry 's, coffee and view

Allie Carieri

Best coffee in the area, and the lack of wifi and variety of pastries make it the best place to do reading.

Andrew Stringfellow

Great crowd, magnificent pastries at this NYC neighborhood institution.

Michelle Wiles

Butterfly pastry is the perfect level of crunchy and sweet

Kimmie Ohh

They have Russian coffee , Hungarian coffee & Croatian pastries . Europeans treats.

Joe Sheppard

Dirty , dark, loud , crowded , inconvenient, and I love it. My favorites are the pumpkin pie , palmiers, and massive horseshoe cookies .

It's summertime, try the iced Viennese coffee . Yes, iced coffee , a little milk and whipped cream !

Quequi Dettleff

Try the Carrot cake !! Cash only ! Coffee and hot water refill is free

[Princess]

The shop has only a few traditional Hungarian pastries but lots of non-Hungarian sweets like baklava , cheese cake and mousse . Mediocre place with pseudo intellectual college crowd and a bit pricey too

Anthony

Got some serious work to do? Crack down in this wifi-less and homey cafe . Pastries leave much to be desired. Get an iced Hungarian coffee with whipped cream

Christina Chin

Russian coffee and apple strudel . Lotsa college students studying here

Foad Torshizi

Sit down and work on your laptop as long as your battery lasts. No outlets. Pastry is good. Free coffee refill.

Michael Harris

They actually serve a solid cup of coffee here.... Enjoy! Get it light and sweet

Wouter Veenstra

Really really great cheesecake , but never forget to ask if you can get your apfelstrüdel warm... Or maybe that's just a European thing ;-)!

Giuseppe Turitto

The pastries are amazing and the coffee the best. Nice attention.

amy

don't look for computer outlets here! instead, curl up with a book by one of the lamps near the wall and enjoy the surrounding academic banter. this is my go-to spot for reading and doing work.

Ilaria

Lovely cozy place and good coffee ! Try the Hungarian coffee
